Here We Go Again Another Cut in Benefits.

I have not been at my job long only like 4-5 months and this is my second cut in benefits. First we lost a day of sick time (we have a ton so it really didn't bother me all that much). Now we are having to fork over money for our insurance. The company did pay 100% for employee and 50% for family. Now they say starting Feb.1 they will only pay 80% employee and 40% family. We are not in a Union so I'm not sure how to stop this or even if I can. I work my butt off for this company and all's we get are cuts. I thought the economy was turning around. What health benefits does your employer offer?

Companies are very afraid of what will happen if and when all of Obamas new health mandates kick in. THey are proactively changing things to cover themselves for when the costs go way up. My husband's company has perhaps some of the best benefits in the country-no copay for anything ever. Not even prescriptions. Well we just found out they are for the first time going to add in a copay. There can be no other reason in the world why they would do this but Obamacare.

My company pays 100% of all medical, dental and vision for my daughter and I. Along with everyone elses family that works for the company.

With not being in a union, you have no union to fight for you guys because of the changes. And the company can do what they see fit, even if its going to screw over everyone. There is basically nothing you can do.

There is nothing you can do. This is happening everywhere. Most people in this country have inadequate, to no insurance. It's a very unfortunate and sad fact of life here. I'm sorry you're going through this, and I know it must be hard. My husband works his butt of and gets NO insurance, so there are always people worse off. There are people much worse off then my family. Try to count yourself lucky, that you have anything at all.

My husband is self employed so we pay 100% for our insurance and he has no paid sick time or vacation time either.
The great thing about this country is you are free to do what you want! If you can get better benefits and pay else where go for it:) No one is forcing you to stay at your company against your will.

It's becoming more and more rare that an employer pays all of your health insurance. My husband works for an insurance company and we still pay 30% of the family coverage, and that is for an HMO, it would be more if we went with the PPO.

Unfortnately, you do not have much recourse except to find a better job if you are unhappy. The economy is still shaky :(
My nephew had his pay cut in 1/2 just so his company wouldn't have to lay off anyone. He just got 3% back. I haven't had a raise in three years, there is a pension freeze and my 401k hasn't been matched in 2 years. Not to mention our health ins continues to go up.
Hang in there, I know it is frustrating but you are not alone in any of this.

The economy is slowly getting better, however, there will be lots of cuts in health insurance. A lot of insurance plans are getting more and more expensive, it's not your employer's fault. It's the Insurance Companies. Their premiums are expensive and we are getting less and less coverage. As a whole, we are in a huge deficit as a nation and need to get out, even as we are getting the economy up, there are a lot of other factors to deal with.

I not only lost my job that paid only part of my health insurance, after almost 2 years, and hundreds of job applications, I took the only job that was offered to me. I make half of my former salary, and NO benefits. As far as I'm concerned your doing great!

It's all but unheard of for any companies to offer 100% of the premiums anymore for the employer. My husband is paying 550 per month for a family of 4 and that doesn't count dental. The hospital deductile is very high too. The office visit copays get bigger every year too. We pay 35 for a primary, 50 for urgent care or specialist and 100 for ER.

Unforturtunately you started mid-year and are now a victim of the company's new benefits policy for the new calendar year. Most companies have renewals for insurance on 1/1.

You can't fight it-unless you just don't take the insurance. Most companies esp the smaller ones are facing HUGE increases in their premiums and often have no choice but to pass it along to the employee. Some companies choose to offset some of the cost by rasing the insurance deductible, which will decrease your monthly premium from your check..BUT sometimes the deductible is HUGE-my former company just raised their family deductible to $5700!

Bottom line-take advantage of your HSA if it's offered and have the money oulled pretac-that will help. Otherwise there isn't much more to do, but shop for your own policy.

It isn't necessarily the company just being greedy that is causing the issues.

Not 100% of health care, that's for sure! I didn't think ANY company did that anymore.
We have a HSA and LOVE it.

LMAO ~ you should feel blessed. My company pays 60% of my MEDICAL INSURANCE ONLY. I have to pay 100% for my family for medical and 100% for everyone for dental and vision. I have ZERO sick days, and do not get paid holidays, just the day off UNPAID. I would rather work!! Don't complain, be happy for what you've got!

I get that it stinks to "lose" something. But...! 80%/40% is still better than a lot of benefits packages out there.

Have you talked to your bank or financial planner about whether or not a Health Savings Account (HSA) would work for you? You can only use them in conjunction with high-deductible health care plans.

I estimate that $230 comes out of every pay check to cover family medical. There are other deductions I pay for dental and vision plans. My employer gives me a $$$ credit every paycheck to off-set these costs that is based on my pay scale and my tenure. I choose the more pricey plan. I could choose something else and have less come out of my paycheck...But I would rather pay a little more to mitigate the risk that if something really bad happens and then am stuck with a "cheaper" benefits plan.

I would consider yourself lucky to have an job that provides any insurance. The company that I work for offers vacation and sick days but no type of health insurance. We have insurance thru my husbands company and pay approximately $400 per month for a family of 4. His company pays nothing towards the monthly cost.

We get 1.25hrs sick and 3.5hrs vaca (or close to it) 24X a year (roughly every 2 wks). Then I pay $176.38 twice a month for my families insurance, I'm not sure what % that is, but we also have 35% co-insurance on everything but office visits (hospital, procedures-including in office, etc).

prob nothing you can do. yes, be happy you have a job, yes, be happy you have insurance - but honestly, i'd be annoyed as well to keep "losing" benefits, especially with it reducing your take-home pay. try to make some wiggle room in your budget in anticipation of any future cuts and keep an eye out for something with better benefits(though realize those could change too!). if you like your job and the people you work with and feel your job is fairly secure, you may just want to tough it out.

I have no health insurance through my job( its not offered) and we do not get sick days we get 2 weeks of vacation a year but cannot use vacation days if we are out sick I have worked at this job for 13 years. I know it sucks to have to pay for health insurance but atleast you have it, so many others do not. I'd gladly pay for it if it was offered.

My husband has been at his current job for 7 years, he's never gotten an increase in pay and the insurance rates go up every single stinkin year. On top of that his company only pays for 50% of his insurance premiums and we pay over $800.00 a month for the other 50%. On top of that we have a $6,000 a year co-insurance and a $100 deductibles p/person p/prescription and another $100 p/person for medical deductible.
I think we are all feeling it in some way or another. The ecomony is NOT on an upturn and will not be for some time.

I don't have the percentages, but I pay approx. $200/mth for family & last year our company went to a different insurance so it would be cheaper, but didn't pass the savings down to us. Actually, our copays and that went up and the amount out of our checks were the same. Our ded. is $500, better than most, but I don't get why we have to pay for insurance & then pay more before they will pay...??? It's all a scam...if we could go to the Dr. for the discounted rate the insurance gets, we wouldn't need insurance, 'cept for hospitalization. I worked for a company where the insurance was over half my paycheck...needless to say me & my kids went without for long time.

The business I work for pays for the employee only which I just got covered in August :) My husband works for his dad--they promised to pay for our son and me after giving birth--they didn't, so our son has had his own policy since birth and I went uninsured for almost two years. We pay $174 dollars a month with Blue Cross and it was going to be a little over $400 a month if I added him at work. So, we are a family of three and have three different insurance policies...lol!

We have Anthem. I will be paying 85 every two weeks for me and one child. I'm looking at adding my boyfriend on and that will be 155. Those are both the lower options. If I wanted to pay the higher options then it would be 150 for me and baby and 250 for me and family. While I know it sucks that you may be losing what you originally signed on for, I'm slightly shocked you even found a company that does 100% coverage for employees. I didn't think anyone did that anymore.
