Alright Mamas, I need your help. My partner and I are planning an 8 week telecourse for families. And we need a price for it. It is 8 weeks (every Wednesday starting in July) from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. In the 8 weeks the families will complete their Family Rules Book, something they create together like their life instruction booklet. In the eight weeks the sessions will include but not be limited to: setting up the family for financial success, nutrition coaching and family menu planning, parenting coaching, sessions on communications, family systems and becoming the CEO of Your Home Inc. This telecourse will be recorded so that the participants can come back to the sessions whenever they want.
Our "tag line" is:
Your car has a manual, Your Wii has an instruction booklet, even a box of pasta comes with directions.
So what about your family? Where are the directions for that? Right here! Family Rules.

So, Mamas what is a reasonable fee for this course?

CLARIFICATION: each session is a lesson and an assignment to be completed by next session. Each assignment will be a part of their family rules book. We will not actually be publishing the books, they will be electronic. In the end this "book" will be their family instruction manual. Everyone will be on the "same page" when it comes to systems, money, food etc.

So assuming I need house rules...I am your client, and you will guide me and my family toward completing written goals? Business plan/family plan? Are you going to publish this for them? Do they write it themselves and you guide? Please explain as if you were selling it to me.

Okay, before getting started, I think you should write a plan. Your post was written as if on a whim. You have to be prepared to answer common questions, before they are asked, right up front.

So to answer your question, all that comes to mind is my daughters 30 minute tennis lesson at $45 for 6 weeks. 3 hours/$15 an hour. So will the session be exclusive to 1 person or can the whole family and the neighbor sit in on conference call. Will you host this as a teleconference with limited seating? This would make a difference in the pricing, as a private session is always a bit more expensive.

I pay $100 for a 45 minute 6 week sign class and $100 for an 8 week 1 hour swim class. Neither class has to rent space, that's just for prep and time.

Sounds like $100 is about reasonable.

You have received some good answers that will require you to research a little more. I have seen courses similar to yours range from $99 to $2999.

It all depends on if people know who you are and want to be associated with your success or if this is a new idea that you have. I would suggest that you do a test run and charge a nominal fee, say $69 per person. Each person that signs up knows that this is a test run and you can use what you learn as research for what works and what doesn't. Also have each person agree to give a written testimonial for the course.

After the course is completed, take all that you have learned, along with the testimonials and then market your program to the hilt at a new price. This price point will be determined by the information that you have gathered with the test run.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi B.! Sounds like a great course! Telecourses that I have thought about doing have been in the $12-$15 range PER week. So that would equate to about $96-$120 for the whole course.

Good luck to you!

I think it depends on is this your profession? or is this something that just sounds like a good idea. You mentioned partner so it sounds like you are not married, so it doesn't sound like you will be teaching from experience. Many things come into consideration when charging a fee.
