Hi...I just bought a Dyson DC07 and I don't like it. It doesn't have great suction...and I had a Kenmore vac...and I like that but the belts kept breaking. Can someone PLEASE give me some advice on what they like and have...I don't want anything heavy and I do need something that has a long cord...and long hose to clean steps. I don't mind paying more for a vacuum either. thanks girls!!!!

What can I do next?

I know they're a little pricey but orrecks are really good. I work at a hotel as a housekeeper and it's what we use. They're amazingly light and have super suction...especially for how often we use them.

Orecks are good, but I went with the Electrolux. Very Pricy but the best vacum I have ever owned - I went through every brand out there before I gave up and spent the money for the electrolux. No regrets though and I will never buy another brand. Not that I'll have to since they last about 20 years!!!

Get an Oreck. I love ours. It's pricey, but it's the only one you will need for a lifetime. It is probably 15 years old, we replaced the motor once for $60 or something like that. It lays totally flat to go under beds, dressers, chairs, etc. It is great on the stairs because it is so light. It will come with a free canister vacuum, that I love as well. My husband had it from before we got married, I don't know if I could have spent the money on it myself, but it is so worth it!

I have a Dirt Devil Jaguar and love it, I have own many brnads too over the years, Hoover, Bissell and those, well this one I have had and kept for 4 years now and it is still going strong, I think I have only had to replace the belt once, and I love the bagless so I can dump it, also I know as moms we don't always see that stray penny or something little before the sweep and well it sucks up money or other objects you didn't see very well and doesn't break it going thru, your supposed to change the filter in it I think once a year, but I just recently did that since I had kept the other one clean. I would reccoment checking out their website, they have a cool search thing you can find one to fit your neeeds. I think it was only 80 bucks and it was well worth it since my others I had purchased before were $$. Good Luck http://www.dirtdevil.com/

After putting up with crappy vacuums for years I had fianlly had it. We just purchased an Oreck and I LOVE it! It comes with a 21 year warranty. Yearly service for 21 years. I might die before needing a new vacuum, haha. Very lightweight and cleans wonderfully.

Love my Oreck. It's 7 lbs and works great! Have had it for 7 years and wouldn't own anything else. It goes from hard wood to rugs automatically. Service at the store is top notch. My girls - 5 and 7 years old beg me to vac. with it when I'm cleaning since it's light enough for them to use it too.

Sanitaire upright. I use a hand held for crevices and stairs. This is an industrial vacuum. After my 3rd vacuum I had had it. The last one broke at 11 months(no more warranty) and it was only the plastic handle which couldn't be replaced. The one I have now is what they use in Hotels with a long cord and I have had it for 6 years. I've had to replace the belt 3 times and the rolly thing w/ the brushes once at the five year mark. Brace yourself. I could do both of those things myself b/c it's made to be repaired not trashed! I also found that the belts you buy at Walmart/Target break quick but if you go to a vacuum place they cost a little more but last a LOT longer. The Sanitaire wasn't cheap but it wasn't any crazier than the high end ones. DON'T let them sell you the "residential" version of the sanitaire(I don't remember the brand). You want the industrial one b/c it is the one that is made to be repaired. Even if the engine goes they can put in a new one instead of buying a new vacuum. The suction is great and was a big improvement.

Hi,

Well, since I have been selling Rexair Rainbows for 24 yrs now I can tell you they are the ONLY way to go. Especially with kids-if you want a truly clean and hypoallergenic home the water filtration is the only method that makes any sense at all. I would not know what to do without mine! Dog hair, broken glass, kid messes, etc..only a rainbow gets it all. They are more expensive but they last forever! If properly taken care of you should get about 20 or more years from one! If you are interested or want to know more, contact me at ____@____.com-happy to help, regardless of where you buy it from-just get one in your hands-you won't regret it! Good luck
N.
P>S> I noticed a lot of people recommending bag filter types. ALl I can say is you would not mop your floor with a bucket full of holes, so why would you try to clean your house with a bag full of holes?? Very inefficient and very unhealthy. THe rainbow not only has water filtration but also a hepa filter so the result is 99.99% catching of all dust and germ particles. Rexair has a website you can look on and I would be happy to help in any way I can. Please be careful, don't buy from so-called discount people-you will not get new, registered, legal ones nor ones that can be serviced in the future-buy from a legal distributor.

Let me know if you find a good one! I have had several over the last 5 years all in the $300-$500 range and they all are pieces of !@#$ Had no luck with Kenmore Progressive (canister and upright)nor Hoover. Dysons seem clunky and I did not want to empty the cup evry time. I think about my mother's vacuum, it was an Electrolux and very pricey but it was purchased in the 70's and I think we finally threw it out in the late 90's...it had a lot of duct tape on it but it still worked awesome...thinking of biting the bullet and buying one...if I would have done that day one, although the Electrolux is very pricey, still would have been ahead of the game based on how many $300 vacuums I have purchased....

Hi L.

I have done a ton of research before purchasing and currently for a mainstream reasonably priced vacuum The Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum with HEPA filters and rubber wheels to protect wood floors is the best vacuum. Its only downside it is a little heavy and the suction is super high.. But it is around $250 on sale at Boscovs and if you buy before Thursday you get a $50 gift card. According to all the reviews by people who had Dyson and bought it and the expert consumer report reviews claim it outperforms the Dyson in their cleaning trials.

I have a Kirby Ultimate G and I love it! It's a little on the heavy side, but I've had a Dirt Devil, a Dyson, you name it... The Kirby is by far the best vacuum I've ever used! It has a great attachment for cleaning hard floors as well as stairs. It can even be used as a carpet cleaner. The only downside is that you may have to sit through a long sales pitch from some young kid!

I bought an Oreck. I am sorry I didn't buy one years ago. Cleans much faster and more thoroughly than any other sweeper I've ever had. The only thing I don't like is that there aren't attachments on board. They give you a serparate canister for that, but I think it's worth it for how well the upright works.

Oreck!!! This vacuum is the best on the market. They do not have "Sexy" advertising so people don't really know too much about them. You pay about $500 for the vac but you get the vac, with a LOONG cord and a free gift which could be a small vac with a hose for stairs and cars and such. they offer a 7 year service plan with the vac and you do not have to pay extra for it. It also comes with a small manual to help you trouble shoot any problems before you have to take it in for repairs. we have had ours for about 5 years now and I am still in love with it.

I had suggested the vacuum system built into your home to someone else and I still love it, but if that isn't an option for you...the stores that sell the built in kind also sell REALLY good regular vacuums. When you go to a place like the "Vac Shop" you can tell them your needs and they will show your MANY models that they let you try out in their store and then offer warranties and maintanence plans to support the system that you've just purchased. Places like the "Vac Shop" sell many different brand so they are not trying to sell you one particular brand.

HI I have an Oreck and I love this vacuum!! I've had it for 10 years and it is very light which is good for me since I have a neck problem and can't carry heavy things. I also got the small vac that has the hose for steps or small spaces that a regular one can't get too. I do know that sometimes they run specials and you can get the hand held one for free. I know they sell it on QVC and they have thier own stores. I swear by mine you should look into it. They might even have a web site that you could look up and see what it like. L., I have used many vacuums. I personally don't like the Dysons, they seem to heavy and bulky at least for me. They were very hard to push. I have found that uprights are not very convenient. I personally like the Kennmore canister vacuum, I can't remember the name of it but is the bluish green, almost a hunter green. It has a long cord and hose with lots of attachments and when I purchased mine it came with a little beater bar for steps or furniture. I hope this helps and you can find one that fits your needs.

Hello,
My father owns and operates a vaccum cleaner store. He would reccommend a Riccar or Simplicity(made bt Riccar). You will only find them at a vaccum store most likely. I have never seen one in a department store. I absolutely love mine. It has a hose, attachments, and a floor/carpet option. It has great suction and air filter. I have an older one and it still works great. The only thing I have ever had done to it was basic tune/clean up. The only thing on your list it isn't is...light. It isn't very light weight, but like I said mine is older, a newer one might be. I would send you to my Dad's shop, but he is in Missouri...a little far to go for a vaccum! Good luck. A.

I have an Oreck as well, these vacuums work great they have fantastic warranties like no other company. You can take them in once a yr for free service. I think they are up to a 10yr warranty now with the XL plus they give you the free canister vac and some other freebie of your choice.
My other reccommedation would be the Rainbow, this uses water instead of bags or expensive filters, it's fantastic if you have a lot of allergies. It is pricey but they last a long time.
