No biggy, either ignore it or say no and gently redirect. Don't get upset cause he'll enjoy the reaction. He's just learning how his body works.
HELP...my 11 month old son has started sticking his fingers down his throat until he gags. He thinks its hysterical but my hubby and I don't.
No biggy, either ignore it or say no and gently redirect. Don't get upset cause he'll enjoy the reaction. He's just learning how his body works.
My son did that too. He stopped after he threw-up.
He's learning cause & effect. Very normal and very common. He's OK.
.
Ignore him, once he sees the lack of reaction, he'll get bored with it.
/agree with everything everyone else has said. My son is 9mo and has started doing this lol. It's kinda funny (and a little gross) but if you react to him he will say "OOHHH! I do this and Momma acts really funny and freaks out! Let me do it more!" ..... the best thing to do is ignore, second best is gently remove his hand from his mouth and give him something to hold/play w/. If his hands are full then he can't shove them down his throat lol.
And like someone else said, he is discovering his body and that when I do THIS something happens that feels weird.
All kids do it. Ignore it and he'll stop doing it for attention. Over-react every time and he'll just keep doing it to get a rise out of you.
It will pass soon enough. All babies do this, it's anew toy to them. It is hilarious to them, it's cause and effect. Plus he gets a reaction out of mom and dad.
turn away and don't even look. we had to do this when our daughter was BITING herself. it was hard but worked after 2 weeks or less
It doesn't matter if you think it's funny, he does...so he'll keep doing it.
Most little kids I have known, including my own, do it at some point. My daughter actually did it around that age, then stopped for a long time, then all of a sudden a week or so ago did it again (she's almost 2). I just tell her to "stop making ugly noises" and she knocks it off. But when she was your son's age I just said EW everytime and eventually she stopped.
Oh and I also let her stick her fingers in my mouth, sort of imitating what she was doing but with me. Well when she stuck her fingers in my mouth I would pretend to bite them, and it would make her giggle. I think it helped her with not shoving them so far back in her throat.
Good Luck.
My son did that too, sorry but he still does it occasionally at 5 years old. As long as it is just his fingers don't react too much, although i do tell my son now if he throws up he has to clean it up.
