Hi Moms,
This is my first request but I have the utmost confidence that you will be able to help me. I am planning a combo b-day party for my two girls, soon to be 9 and 6. Their birthdays are two weeks apart. We are having their party the day after Thanksgiving so there will still be lots of family and friends present. They wanted a fashion show/salon feeling party. I purchased some sort of African patterned fabric for the fashion show. There is plenty of fabric that we can use for the few boys present also. I just asked the parents to bring them some black pants. Someone showed me how to cut the fabric so I won't be there trying to sew stuff for people. Can't sew to save my life. lol. I plan on polishing the girls' nails and putting a little makeup/gloss on them for their fashion walk down the runway. They are going to perform for the many adults that will be present. I am trying to find party ideas for everyone else to get involved in.
But what else should/could I do? Most of these people are flying down and staying with us for the holidays. I need to make sure this party is not a huge bore. I have plenty planned for the rest of the visit. But what about this 3 hour party? This will be my family's first time present for the girls' birthdays, so I want it to be special.

I know you wonderful Moms will have some wonderful party ideas for me. I can't wait for your responses.

Hi,

I have 2 boys so I really envy you being able to put on such a girly event.
I know that boys love to get prizes so I would sugget plenty of prizes. Also kids love to look at themselves, so mirrors everywhere too. Ballons too. Get the heium filled ones in gorgeous colors. They are usually a real hit.
I love the paparazzi idea. Maybe you could put up one of those announcement boards like they do at hotels to announce what event is on so that when the kids arrive they see a big board that lets them know something special is happening. How about some costumes for the kids to dress up in too.
I am Australian and one of the favourite snacks for having at parties is Fairy Bread. It is just buttered bread with sprinkes on. You butter the bread and then press it into a bowl of sprinkles. Be generous with the spinkles. It is yummy for kids. It looks nice too.
How about giving the kids new names, each one could be a famous model.
At the end of the party have one of the adults dressed up as a supermodel or someone glitzy and come to the front door, ring the door bell and then come in and give out the party favor bags. Go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels to get the nice little bags. You could fill them with thinkgs like glitter and cute little things.
Have a great party,

W.

Within the 3 hours, you might want to just concentrate on planned activities for about 1 to 1 and a half, and leave plenty of time for the kids to play and the adults to visit. Food and beverages are always important...

Your theme sounds fun and I know my girls have loved doing dress up shows for the family. They also liked to create their own commercials to cover their costume changes. They just used there own wardrobes and coordinated their outfits.

If the girls don't have pierced ears, stick on jewels are great for glitz and cute in a party favor bag with some lip gloss etc. for the girls...don't have suggestion for the boys, but maybe you could have someone teach them to juggle or magic tricks and include something like this in the party bag. They could perform what they learn and have practiced while the girls work on their own part of the show. Keep the show between 15 and 30 min. or the grown ups will get tired of it.

Meet and greet for 20 min. Organize the kids for 10 min. Let them prepare and plan for 30. Have them do the show. Have snacks, cake and presents (30 min.) and let the kids loose to play and the adults to enjoy eachother's company. Break out the music and chances are the kids will keep playing the style show, etc.

Fun!

I would suggest have one or two adults be papparazi and take photos with disposable cameras during the show. For the adults you could have them play the game where everyone wears the name of a famous person on their backs and they have to guess who it is by asking questions of the other adults that are playing. Or have a Hide and Seek type game where you hide one or two unique objects in the house for the adults to find. For example a wooden spoon put on the fireplace mantle something along those lines.
Or how about starting a "birthday memory book" where everyone writes about their favorite childhood birthday and you could put it together with a current picture of the adult who wrote the memory.
I know these don't coordinate with the party theme but it would be something for the adults to do.
For the boys you could have them put tattoos on for the show.

Good luck,
H.

This sounds like a great party. I like the suggestion about also allowing them to just play.

Boys are VERY active. Make sure they get to run around and be physical. Simon says is great fun with a large group of kids.. And if they are all dressed in their "Fashion show clothes" it would make for great photos.

Maybe also do the traditional Pinata.. You can fill it with bandaids, temporary tattoos, small toys as well as a little bit of candy. Give each child a paper bag and have them write their name on it before they start hitting the pinata. This can be their "goodie bag".

I am going to add to Hillarie's great idea about the photos. If you use a digital camera, right after the party you can post the pictures. This way people can have the photos printed for only a few cents each at Walgreens..

I host parties for kids in your home. One of my themes is glamour girl makeovers. You have that part under control it seems but I also host build-your-own stuffed animal parties. Similar to Build A Bear but I come to you. I bring everything needed for the children to become toy makers for the day. Kids get to stuff their animal by hand, make a wish on a rainbow wish star and fill out birth certificates for their new friends. There is no sewing involved and since the children stuff their animals by hand they love them even more because they made them. I also have a great selection of outfits to add on or they can decorate t-shirts for their animals. This is something that works great for both boys and girls and will most certainly be a great memory for your family to be a part of.

You can view my website here www.myhuggableparty.com

I have a coupls dates open for the rest of 2009 and it is best to book 14 days in advance. Email or call me if you have any questions.

Good luck with your party! It will be fun no matter what!
