As much as I like Mr. Bean, the movie was a little long and dry for me... (as an adult) I think a 3 yr. old would lose interest REALLY fast. ;)
we are going to the free movies tomorrow and wonder if anyone has an opinion on which movie my 3yr old daughter would enjoy better? has anyone seen mr. Bean's holiday or Madagascar 2 and have an opinion on what a 3 yr old girl would like better? she doesn't like witches in movies, but has watched the real people dalmation 2 movie and was fine with it. does madagascar 2 have many scary parts? I know I think I would personally enjoy madagascar better but wonder if anyone's 3 yr old has enjoyed either of these movies.
thanks,
B.
thank you for your helpful replies. we ended up going to see Mr. Bean's holiday, because Madagascar 2 was totally full. had my 8 yr old nephew with. he liked it. Megan, the 3 yr old, actually made it an hour but was asking me what he was doing every 2 seconds and why. then she was ready to go. then went to putt putt golf at Smuggler's cove on cortez rd. it was very hot, only made it thru about 5 holes, then fed the baby alligators. that part was cool. I asked if you could just come an feed the alligators, but they said there would be a per person charge of $6. that is too much. they only charge $3 for the food (they said you get food with your $6 but everyone has to pay that. if you pay for the golf then you only pay for the food and if you only want one bag it's fine. the 3 yr old made it a few holes but then got distracted exploring the course and decided she was done. so we got ice cream and left to go home and swim.

I took my 3 y/o son to Madagascar 2 (free movie ) earlier this summer and he lasted about 45 minutes. He got antsy and wanted to get up. I have not seen the other but I thought Madagascar was fine for the age, although it seems geared more toward older kids and adults (it has flashbacks, which little kids won't understand). I use the free movies for something to do for a little while but we never get through them. Good luck.
Take her to see Madagascar 2, my 3yr daughter loved it! Expect to get up a few times for potty. My daughter is usually ready to go just before the ending but a few snuggles and she is good. Get there a bit early so the many people dont scare her. We also bring her blankety, her favorite lovely.
The first time at the theatres she got a bit scared so candy helped and a small thing of bubbles.
It's been awhile since my kids were that young, but I would say that ANY little ones would enjoy an animated flick more than a non-animated one. Even Mr. Bean. :)
My kids love Madagascar (and probably would love M2 also)... they are older.. but even at their ages, they probably would enjoy it more than Mr. Bean... That'd be my guess.
Hi B.. I have not seen Mr. Bean, but my son will be three tomorrow and we took him a few months back to see Madagascar 2.. he loved it. He had already seen the first, and of course, loved, "I like to move it, move it" singing and dancing all over the living room. I personally like the first one better, but both my kids and my nephew, also two loved both one and two. Best of luck.

MADAGASCAR for sure!!! My three yr old saw it and loved it, no scary parts I can remeber. Mr bean doesn't speak as far as I can remeber and I think a three yr old would get bored easily, and you don't want that :)
ENJOY THE MOVIE :)
I haven't seen Mr Bean but Madagascar 2 was fantastic (better than the first). Don't know about 3 year old, but my 4 year old loves it. A little bit of animated violence in it though as it shows how Alex the lion got to New York zoo, and there is a plane crash but like I said, my 4 year old loved it and wasn't scared at all. Did ask a couple of questions about why they were hunting though.
Great movie though, We thoroughly enjoyed it.
B.,
My 3 year old (April 2006) went to see Curious George the Movie and Horton Hears a Who at the free movies. He did pretty good at both, but get there early, bring snacks (especially if your child doesn't drink movie theatre drinks or needs a sippy), and be prepared to leave. Oh, and either dress your child warm or bring jacket/blankets since my son complained that he was cold at both movies. I know that Horton is going to be at the free movies down here next week, and it was pretty age appropriate with a few zingers for the adults.
Haven't seen either of the ones you mentioned. Good luck!

Without a doubt, Madagascar! Mr. bean is not for a 3 yr old. I personally can't stand Mr. Bean. It is adult humour. Go with madagascar.

Mom of 12yr old girl and9 yr old boy
So glad your daughter loved Maagascar. My 3yr old grand daughter love Ice Age, she laughed every time the squirrel was chasing the acorn.
Madagascar is great!
My almost 3yo LOVES Madagascar 2! The only sad part is at the beginning, but can easily be explained shortly into the movie. (I don't want to spoil it for you!) :) It is a very cute movie... you should also enjoy it! Have fun!
My 3 year old loved Madagascar 2. There is a plane crash but they make it funny
For the future - check out www.kids-in-mind.com
There's an alphabetical listing of all movies in the theaters and on video and they rate them on 3 sections: sex/nudity, violence/gore, profanity with a number 1-10. They also give a very detailed account of what occurs. I don't let my son see any movie I haven't first checked out here.
Madagascar 2 - The other would be a little over her head...
hi B.! My 3 year old daughter LOVES Madagascar 1 & 2.... we have them both on DVD and she can recite practically both movies completely!
I haven't seen Mr. Bean's Holiday, so I couldn't tell you much about that one. Madagascar 2 is okay. My girls like it. (I have a 4 yr old and 2 yr old) The 2 year old likes the beginning and thats it really. There aren't any scary parts, but some of the humor isn't "age appropriate." My girls like the music I think is why they like the movie. I hope this helps some. I wish I had seen Mr. Bean to help more, but someone gave us Madagascar 2 which is why I have seen it. Good luck. I'm sure she will enjoy either one though!
Mr. Bean is over her head and will not keep her entertained. Madagascar 2 is a better choice, but she may need a few breaks. Any feature-length film is a long time for a 3 yr old to stay entertained. their attention spans are still not that long at that age.
Have fun!
My daughter (now 5) and four of five grandchildren ranging from 2-6 preferred Madagascar 2, the fifth grandchild doesn't watch movies yet. Enjoy.
Mr Bean is funny, but rather geared towards adults.
I havent seen M2, but at least the animation is kid-geared.
Perhaps you can let her know
for ALL movies she ever watches with you
that you can make the "mean characters," who scare her,
FUN by using that "startle" time to grasp each other
and GASP and make those funny faces together.
You can even PRACTICE this before you go.
It can REALLY lead to giggles, and teaches her
that moments of fear can be present,
but that she can move through them,
and that things will iron out.
It also shows her that you are REALLY there for her
when she needs you.
For all that, there's definitely something to be said
for choosing movies that are age appropriate
(perhaps even watching them alone, before you view them with her). My son loved the Creature from the Black Lagoon when he was little. His friend, who was a year older, was terrified of the creature and he had dreams about it for weeks. Its always a wise mom who knows what's best for her child and honors the child in such knowings.
(I thought movies were more fun AT HOME with my 3 year olds, where we could hit PAUSE for potty breaks and refills on snacks)
Have fun at the movies B.!
Hi There! I happen to own both movies and i honestly believe that Madagascar will be your best bet. Mr. Bean's holiday is funny but meant more for adults. There is very little for a 3 year old to enjoy in that movie. I must admit that Madagascar has adult content for being a children's movie but the adult content is very discreet and i'm sure a 3 year old will not understand it but you. Plus, the animation in that movie is fantastic and i'm sure your 3 year old will love it. Good luck and i hope you enjoy which ever movie you decide to watch. Thanks!
My daughter is 3 and she loves, loves, LOVES Madagascar 2. We have not had much success with her and live action films yet, but she'll watch Madagascar/M2 over and over. I don't remember any scary parts, either. Have fun!
Hi B.! My son is three (going on four), and he loves the Madagascar movies. He gets scared quite easily-- we can no longer watch Nemo because of the shark or Shrek because of the dragon-- but he wasn't scared by anything in either of the Madagascar movies. He really loves them, especially the music and the parts where the characters dance. Hope this helps, and that it's the same for your daughter. You never know what will scare them, right? :) But since my guy is a fraidy cat, I thought it might help to know that those movies don't scare him.
are both rated G?
I cannot even bring my six yr old to anything that is not rated G because he gets scared. he is sensitive.
He saw madagascar 3 (is there one? maybe it was 2) and the volcano scene scared him.
he saw Up and the dogs, etc, scared him.
I am not big into bringing little ones to the movies...
