My daughter is 6 1/2 months old. I introduced solids the end of February. So she's been on solids for almost 2 months. All of a sudden she will not drink all of her formula. She plays with the nipple or starts to gag. She'll drink like 2-3 ounces. But then she'll eat all her solids. I know she needs her formula still for the nutrition. She also is waking up hungry, earlier in the morning. She used to sleep 9-10 hours a night. Now it's more like 7 hours. My nurse told me I had to get the formula im her some how. So I tried to make a 2 ounce bottle between feedings to no avail. Any advice is appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well now she's only getting about 5-6 oz. A DAY!!! Hardly any wet diapers. Dry overnight. I've tried everything!! I am at my wits end.

Maybe try a meal of solids and a small 2-3 oz. bottle, and the next meal give her all formula, etc. alternate. You're probably already doing this but make her cereal with formula. You might want to prepare a pitcher of the entire amount of formula she theoretically should have in a day and then try to get it mostly gone by the days end. This is an accurate way of seeing exactly how much she IS getting overall--all day. I wouldn't stress too much if it fluctuates from day to day--babies will get what they need as long as it's being offered. Good luck!

Thhey will start taking little less but not at 6 months really, more at 9 month stage and up. How much food you giving her? You didn't mention if giving her juice or water, no more then 4 oz of juice and that is not even necessary.

F., I'm not sure what order you are feeding her, however I've noticed that if I feed my son formula first, wait a half hour and then feed solids he does much better.

I would try maybe a little less "food", that way she'll have more room for formula. Not sure how much of the solids she's getting, but maybe cutting back that a little will encourage more formula. Also, if you are giving her juice skip that as well since the formula is definately more important. It would't hurt to see what the pediatrician recommends either, they may have an amount of formula per day to focus on that way you can judge if you're meeting that goal.

I know one mom mentioned formula in her cereal. WHat about with her food? My oldest was like this where after she was introduced to food the bottle became a toy to her. I mixed powdered formula with her food n she never noticed! The sippy cup is a good idea too! At 6 mo. is when she got her first cup.

Maybe try a sippy cup! The new look and feel of the cup may intrigue her.
Good luck!
