My husband and I have kind of hit a rut in our marriage and are working on it. We have a very supportive family that are always there for us. However I have noticed when Grandmas come to baby sit our date nights consist of dinner, maybe some ice cream and then we come home. I am so sick of it, but I have no idea what else to do. We are not really movie ppl unless we have movie night at home, and we have done Cool Crest miniature golf which is fun. But I really want to find something new and different, so we can can get to know each other again. Even my family is like "You guys need to quit having these pitiful date nights, go do something fun." I don't want to spend a ton of money, but a little investment in keeping it spicy is okay!! LOL!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

What can I do next?

It is such a beautiful day in Kansas City today! Head down to the plaza and walk around. Then go to the rooftop of O'Doud's and have a drink and people-watch. Dinner at the Melting Pot is fun.

After that, go to the Power and Light and hang out outside or grab some bowling at Lucky Strike- that's the only place I've ever seen where bowling looks sexy! :)

Have a fun night!

My first thought was bowling...then I peeked at other answers! WOW I see it's already there. But seriously we have so much fun going bowling...we are both competitive and heckle each other all the time. We laugh when the other one makes a gutter ball, we joke how a strike is a lucky!

Then I thought about going window shopping at the Plaza...already said.

How about the going for an afternoon date to the Nelson? We've also gone an wondered around a book store...talking about books we've read, comparing books we've read...giving each other ideas for new books.

Go to Powell Gardens, or the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, take the kids to Deanna Rose...Go to to a Tbones game, Royals Game, Sporting KC, etc.

Make a list of new restaurants you want to try...
Make a list of places you want to go things you want to do...

Make each list separately, but them up per restaurant, things to do...different piles put them in separate bags. One of you reaches into the bag pulls out the restaurant, one of you reaches in and pulls out the event.

For the restaurant you don't have to choose days/weeks in advance you can pull that out the day of.

Why can't the kids go to grandma's instead of grandma coming to you?

You could invite friends over for dinner and play cards. We have a ton of fun when we have our neighbors over just to chat and play Spades.

Or just play cards between the two of you. Spice it up and play strip rummy!

Out and about. . . There is so much to do around here. Where would you take out of town company who had never been here before?
The River Market area is fun.
Visit the WWII Museum.
The Jazz district
Negro League Museum
Union Station
A ball game. OK, the Royals aren't the best, but with the new remodel there is a whole world back behind the scoreboard!
Drive a little bit and go to Weston, Parkville, Atchison, etc.
It's getting nice outside, get your dinner to go and have a picnic at a park.

Go to different places for dinner. We made it our mission to go to a different BBQ place when we went out.

I don't want to be critical but your dates are what you make them. My husband and I (married 23 years) can make a trip to Home Depot fun!
You (collectively you and your husband) have to make an effort.

Trade who gets to pick the date activity. And you can't be critical of the choice! If he wants to walk around the latest GEEK show (which would be the case here) you might learn something. Likewise, I may pick a book signing! Think outside of your usual box.

I don't live in KS but there are tons of great blogs and websites devoted to this very subject:) I googled it and I posted one but hundreds of sites came up, here is one just to get you started:)

http://bestdatenightideas.com/

My hubby and I started a thing where the other person has to plan the date, as in, we take turns. It's actually pretty fun:) But ideas could include, taking a picnic to a park/lake and some board games to play on a blanket. You could write each other a note and put them in a bottle and throw off a pier. See if anywhere in your area has free concert nights. You could give each other 10 dollars and hit a grocery store where both of you buy ingredients and you have to come up with a meal on the spot. You could go to a university that has a culinary department and ask to see free demos or student tastings. Or, spice up the things you already do by placing bets on who wins at mini golf or do the ordering for the other person at the restaraunt or if you go to a frozen yogurt place, you both make a pact you will get a new flavor with all new toppings to try new things. GL and have fun!!

We love to go on bike rides, picnic, once we went house hunting to one of our "dream" neighborhoods. I've been told Cosentino's at Power & Light has a roof top park so our next nice date night may be picking up something in the store then heading to the roof to watch the sunset. :o) Take a dance class together, cooking class or something you'd both enjoy. Concerts, plays. Shawnee mission theater in the park and starlight will be opening up soon as well. Good luck!!

There are SO many fun things to do in the Kansas City Area, it just depends upon what you two enjoy and what your budget is.
Aunt Mel has some great ideas, any of those sound fabulous
How about The KC Royals...they will be starting soon
Or for a more budget minded, and really fun evening, go to a T-Bones game, out in the Legends area.
If you want to do different restaurants...join Restaurant.com ( it is free) and they have fabulous breaks on restaurants all over the country. You just put in the zip code and pull up a list of tons of restaurants in the KC area. I know that right now, if you are a member you can get a $25 certificate for $3!!
The Power and Light District has some really fabulous things going on there, google it and see what is happening on the evening that you are going out.
Also...google "things to do in Kansas City" and see what that comes up with...there are always great ideas there.
AND...go the City website, I bet they have a month by month calendar of fun things.
You live in such a great area and you are only limited by your imagination and your willingness to look for something fun and fabulous to do with your honey!!
Enjoy!!!

Can you go out during the day? My husband and I like to go to the Nelson-Atkins museum, with bonus that it's free, you just have to pay for parking if you use the garage. You can walk around, holding hands and discussing just how many paintings of Mary are in the Renaissance section. (I just went to their website and it looks like they're open until 9pm on Fridays!)

If it's a date "night" we like to eat out, have drinks, play pool or darts, go bowling, maybe listen to live music if we are lucky. Also, after MANY years of marriage, it's fun to often include other couples in the mix :)
If it's a date "day" we like to take a hike with our dog, go to Costco (so romantic, huh?) catch a matinee, go to a street fair/farmer's market or some other free event. For example last weekend we went to a huge RV show sale and expo. SOOO fun!!! We're not in the market for one yet but it is a dream...
Oh another relatively cheap and fun date is to go to a local sporting event, be it college or pro (though obviously the college tix are a LOT cheaper!)

I haven't been there but up by Nebraska Furniture there is a French chateau that family members have stayed at and they love that. It's more romantic and there are all sorts of places up there to eat and things to see and if you don't like what you see there drive on to some of the places mentioned. So many things to see and do here depending on your likes/dislikes. I hope you have fun.

We don't get to go out too much--family lives in a different state--but we love the Plaza. There are a ton of great restaurants (Jack Stack is our fav) and then we usually do a movie. The theater there is only $6 for an evening movie. We also like to shop/walk around/spend time in Barnes and Noble. I think you should let the kids stay at Grandma's place and have the house to yourself. The Power and Light District seems to have a lot to do.
