Help with Breakouts on a 4 Year Old!

My daughter's face starting breaking out about a week ago and I am freaking out! I haven't seen any breakouts since she was an infant, and back then it was normal on an infant. I started washing her face with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. An area might clear up and then other's will surface. There are no "white heads" on her breakouts, she just has the red bumps on her forehead, down her nose, under her nose, and across her cheeks. Just wanted to see if any other mothers with kids around the same age experienced the same.....is it just a phase of their skin? Is something wrong?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Turns out it was her allergies! She is highly allergic to Ragweed and I hadn't been paying attention to the little Pollen Count report that I get daily. Once I started her back on her breathing treatments and allergy medication, her face cleared up overnight! Thanks to you for responding with your thoughts and suggestions!

Sounds like it could be an allergy or even from sweating. I would talk to her pedi.

Hi C.,

If nothing new has been introduced: food, soaps, laundry detergents, etc., then I would see your pediatrician. Cetaphil is much to harsh a cleanser for a 4 year old, even the gentle skin version.

Good luck,
M.

I'd say check with your doctor to see if looks like anything to be concerned about. From my own experience, my daughter used to break out frequently around her mouth. A friend of mine suggested trying organic milk (she had found she broke out when she drank regular milk, but didn't have problems with organic) and my daughter's face cleared up. I've since switched to hormone-free cheese and yogurt, as those were also giving her problems. Hopefully your daughter's situation will clear up with an equally easy solution. :o)

I don't want to scare you, she may have staff infection. Take her to the doctor, and get it checked out!

I wonder if it is not a "break out", but an allergic reaction to something.
