Help! White Splotches on Dining Room Table!

Hello Moms,

We have a good, hardwood Dining Room Table with a nice, shiny finish. Recently, someone placed a hot, sweaty, pizza delivery box on the table and left it there for several minutes. The result is a big white splotch where the pizza box was. You know, the kind our mothers always warned us about so we wouldn't put our cups of water or other wet things directly on the finished surfaces of furniture without protection... Is there anything I can do to get rid of the white and restore the finish?

Thanks so much for your help!

What can I do next?

Actually, that sort of happened to my brother-in-law's table set... My husband had a barbecue and forgot a chair outside... and it rained... and the whole chair was white, but after he brought it inside, it was fine after a day. I guess you guys just have a finish of a whole other level.

I've heard that mayonnaise will work, probably because it also has oil in it. Good luck.

The reason it is white is that the water was absorbed by the finish and then while drying the top part of the finish dried before the other layers had time to dry. Moisture is still trapped in creating the finish to have the whiteness.

Try Baby oil if you have any...........put a decent amount on there so it can soak it up but not so much on there that it sits on top.......I use that on my table to keep it from getting dried out.......especially the chairs.......

I hope this helps.......good luck.

I remember growing up theat my Mom has furniture polish but it has a dye in it and was oily..I think you can buy something of this nature at a furniture store. I wish you luck. Happy fourth of July.

I use toothpaste (the paste, not gel)... works pretty well. If you know anyone who smokes, you can get some ashes and mix them with water to make a paste. It all depends on how bad the rings are.

I've gotten rid of heat and water marks on my coffee table with a rag, Clorox Clean-Up and a little scrubbing. Good luck!

That happened to us when a hairspray bottle from a dance recital bag leaked on ours. We sanded the spot a little and got one of those touch-up stain pens from Home Depot, and it worked... thankfully.
