My son got into some poison ivy over the weekend. It's all over him! We homeschool, so I also need a doctor that will be supportive of our education choice. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My mom had surgery, so things came to a stand-still here. We ended up taking him to an urgent care center. I decided not to delay when I realized his eyes and groin area were also affected. Turned out okay, but what a mess. We finally discoved that the poison ivy oil was on his toys that he kept handling for four more days. I'm slowly getting those cleaned (collapsible light sabers!).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am so thrilled to have some good leads.

And, Gina, as to whether anyone's education choice is a doctor's business, some members of the AMA and others have decided to make it their business. Some folks believe you and I are too ____ (fill in the blank) to take good, thoughtful care of our children. Sad, huh?

Why does the doctor even need to know your education choice? Aren't you just needing some help for the poison ivy? I don't even remember going to the doctor for poison ivy. I think we used to get oatmeal baths. Does your son have a very serious case?

We use Dr. Crow in North Dallas--or it may actually be Richardson. He is AWESOME. My son was in the hospital for three days very, very sick in ICU and the doctors there couldn't figure out what was wrong with him. Dr. Crow figured it out before they did. He is the right combination of concerned and realistic. I think he would be fine with your choice of education. His office number is ###-###-####. Also, the nurses are great and you can always call with questions without going in.

Dr. Yaeger ###-###-#### or Dr. Dreiling ###-###-####. Both are at Walnut Hill between 75 and Greenville (across from Presby). Both docs have priveledges at Baylor.

Both of these docs will spend as much time as required and are very thoughtful in responding to all of my questions. I have never felt rushed or dismessed. I like both of their staffs as well. Good luck to you.

B.,
Are you willing to go a bit North? The MD's I work for have a Satellite office In Medical City. They have no problems w/ homeschooling- one of our RN's only works Friday and Sat as she home schools. The 2 men are Dr deVilleneuve and Dr Moshier. The office number is ###-###-####.

I have some friends who home school- they use Dr Nale, he too is near MCD, but is fantastic.
