HELP!!!!! My Two Year Old Won't Keep His Hands Out of His Poop!

When my two year old son poops in his pull up, he will grab a handful and show me. Lately he has been smearing it in his room. Today I had to clean poop off of his hands, the blinds, windowsill, bed frame, bed rail, sheets and blanket and the wall! It was absolutely disgusting!!!!! And the smell is almost impossible to get off of his hands! I am usually on top of him and know when he is going so I can change him right away, but unfortunately, I do have to leave him alone for a couple of minutes occasionally. I have been working on potty training him, but he isn't exactly ready. Any suggestions are welcome!! I am desperate at this point!!

Thanks momma's!

Although it may be hot, dress him in a long onesie put on backward so he has no access to his diaper area.

I would put him back in a diaper too. It doesn't sound like he's ready to potty train.

Back to diapers! (backwards if necessary to keep them on him!) I don't think he's ready for potty training yet.

We had to leave our son in diapers and put masking tape around the tabs and all the way around his body. Eventually he figured that out, and we had to switch to duct tape. We did this for every diaper change from 18 months to 2 1/2. By then, he was over it and ready to potty train.

Yep, I had myself a couple of finger painters, too. It is really nasty now--it will give you some good giggles later. Sure, they are the late night, I'm hiding in the closet from the family with a glass of wine giggles, but we have to take what we can get.

It sounds to me like he's proud of it. A mama produces something from her body, dresses it and shows it off. He tries to do the same and people run screaming.....this isn't helpful, is it?

Seriously, it's a new and novel thing. When my son did it, he got a less than warm bath (not to be mean, our hot water was out at the time), and a scolding--that was my first kid, before I learned to hide in the closet and laugh--and he never did it again. My daughter was a repeat offender....but very artistic...

Make it harder for him to get ahold of, as previously suggested, and learn the Bombeck approach:

*If he's still doing it when he goes away to college, THEN I'll worry!*

Best wishes and blessings

He is not ready to potty train. Put him on a diaper. Maybe he just don't like how it feels in his pull-up. Boys are so different from girls. But until he learns how to tell you that he has to potty I would not chance the episodes. It is so hard to know what a 2 yr old is thinking. But I would defintely use something more secure so he can't get his hands in there, with clothes over that so he has to take off more to get to the poop. Good luck sounds llike you have your hands full.

Gross. But really some kids are intrigued by what comes out of them. I would put a snap crotch shirt on him so it is harder to get to it. Then keep reminding him that poop goes in the potty/ pull up only.tell only where you want to be not where can not be because here will only here the last thing you said. Then make help you clean everything up. Good Luck.
