Help! My Little Girl Cries When She Poops!

This just started. My little girl for about a week now isn't drinking as much as she usually does, and now she cries when she poos. Sorry for the details, but her poo is usually one big ball. I'm sure it's painful coming out. I only give her milk, and sometimes water. I really don't want to start juice yet, but should I if this will help with the bowels? What can I do to help soften her stools? Does this mean she's constipated, or not getting enough fluids, or what? She does poo everyday, so it doesn't seem like she's constipated. So, I need help and advice about what's going on with her poo, and how can I get her to drink more without filling her up on juice. Oh, and I forgot to mention that there are only 2-3 wet diapers a day, lately. :(

What can I do next?

She is definitely dehydrated, and giving her juice to rehydrate her is just fine. Dilute it, though, so she has more flavored water. You should be doing everything you can to get her to drink more.

She might have an ear infection- they tend to drink less when they have ear infections. You might try giving her some tylanol and then see if she'll drink better about half an hour later.

It sounds like she is very dry. You should encourage her to drink more water, drink apple juice (you don't say how hold she is but if she's old enough to be on milk she can have juice). Apple juice has an ingredient that works like a laxative. Also you should make sure she's getting plenty of fiber (oatmeal, veggies, fruit?), and exercise.
If you don't have any success with that soon you should consult her dr for more advice b/c if it is too painful to poop she will start to hold it in.
Then you will have a REAL problem on your hands!

I've not experienced that with my little one, but I try to give her peach, pear, or apple daily to help with fiber & keep her flowing. This way juice isn't a necessity. Good luck.

I guess it depends on the age of your daughter. Always try pedialite when there are that few wet diapers. If they are dehydrated, it will help. Could not hurt. I even mix it with my formula for my 12 month old. Juice is not the answer, you are right, but a little tea (natural laxative) mixed with water, or try prune juice mixed with water. I have given my girls pureed prunes before, like the baby food? Gerber or whatever you use. Helped right away. Will atleast make the stool looser if that is why it hurts her. I also beleive in Vasaline on their little hinnies. Helped a lot with both of mine., Does not burn them and it helps with their movements and keeps them from hurting. Hope this helps!

How old is she? Is she still breastfeeding or drinking formula? That would be something I'd want to know before commenting. I would push water before juice (if she's old enough). They get plenty of "water" when breastfeeding, but if she's only drinking cow's milk then she needs water. Also, there is a possibility she's not reacting well to cow's milk.

Sounds like she needs more fluids.
