It a delta 5 in 1 crib and bed it is drop side. I bought on craigslist when my dd was 6 months shes 16 months now so where can I get parts or just go out and buy new one or toddler bed? The part that's broken is where the side that drops locks on the top only one side though the rail can stay dropped and locked but I need it all the way up cuz she tries to climb out. So now I need parts or do I buy a new crib or just buy toddler bed? Help! TIA

Drop-side cribs are now banned in the US because of deaths associated with a part breaking on the crib, causing an unsafe situation for the baby, and can no longer be manufactured, sold, or re-sold. New standards regarding cribs go into effect June 28, 2011.

Your crib may have been recalled, check to find out. If you know the manufacturer contact them.

16 months may be too young for a toddler bed, hopefully your crib can be fixed and stabilized.

Yeah, you just need to buy a new crib.

My son stayed in his crib will he was 3 1/2, but it didn't bother us that he was climbing out.
A side that's up won't stop them from climbing and possibly falling.
I'd say it's time for a bed, or a mattress on the floor (there's no way to fall if you are already as low as you can go).

I would see if she is ready for a toddler bed. I think that the other option is to buy a new crib if you plan on havings other children in the future. I think the drop cribs have been banned because they are not safe and deaths have been reported. I do not think that you can fix the part that is broken. Good luck.

I don't think do it yourself repairing is a great idea in this instance, especially with the recall. I would personally just convert it to the toddler bed (you did say it was a 5-in-1 right) if you think your daughter can handle it. Try it out by putting her mattress on the ground for a few days while you decide if you are going to buy a new crib or convert the old one. My boys both were in toddler beds by 18 months and I think it was a fantastic way for them to gain some independence and learn. Just make sure that you are thorough with the baby proofing around her room. There may be some learning curve as you will have to be patient if she comes out of her room. Good Luck!

if its a five in one bed/crib then dose it not convert into a toddler bed? not sure where to buy parts. but stores are no longer selling drop side cribs as they were too many recalls on them and they are no longer in use. i personaly would just convert it to a toddler bed , use the pack n play if she was not ready, or just find a cheap crib at good will or craigs list, free cycle. as she wont be in the crib much longer? we kept our son in his crib till he was about two and a half. our daughter is sixteen months old now and i am going to keep her in the crib as long as i can. if your hubby or someone can rig it to stay in place with out moving at all (attach the drop slide to the crib) that might be safe for her too?

Either a fixed-side crib if you want her to stay in the crib longer or a toddler bed. But your current crib is unsafe and needs to be thrown away.
