Help! Looking for New Pediatrician!

I am looking for a new pediatrician for my almost 8 month old daughter. Currently, we go to Town and Country Pediatrics. They NEVER take her temperatur, I have to beg them and then they forget and I have to remind them! Everytime my daughter needs to be seen by a doctor, we see a different doctor, she never can see her "regular physician". This is unacceptable. That would be okay, but it seems like I have to take her three times before they figure out what is wrong. AND I tried to make an appt. for tomorrow (which this would be the third time this week I've had her in) and they told me to call back tomorrow... why? Why can I not have an appointment for tomorrow? I don't understand this. Are all pediatricians like this? Now if I switch doctors it will probably take me a month to get an appointment... I don't know what to do.... please help! I apologize for my ranting, I'm just extremely upset. Thank you.

PS, my daughter had a fever, now she is fever free, but when I pick her up or touch her back or rib area she cries loud, like I'm hurting her... has anyone experienced this before? And she is very tired all the time, just not acting like herself. I'm so worried.

What can I do next?

I second Children's Healthcare associates and Dr. Lyons and Dr. monroe. By the way, it seems possible that your daughter may have a UTI. Symptoms are fever, fussiness and pain in the low back could indicate something is going on with the kidneys. DEMAND that they see you and get a urine test asap. I don't mean to alarm you, but my daughter had a UTI before and these are typical symptoms that can often be overlooked! Good luck!p.s. you can ALWAYS get a sick day appt at this office...plus, the nurses are responsive to calls!

Try Children's Healthcare Associtates. They are located at Sheffield/Wellington and all of the doctors are FANTASTIC!! The nurses are great and respond very quickly. I have never had any issues with them. Dr. Lyons and Dr. Monroe are both ones I especially recommend.
Their number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I took my son to Town and Country for the first 3 or 4 months of his life. Then I got too annoyed that they make me wait so long, the doctor we saw was really nice but never seemed to remember us, etc.

We switched to the Family Medicine Clinic at UIC (Dr. Figueroa). She's great - always remembers us, does a good job, clearly loves kids. The couple times my son has been sick they've gotten him in the same day (though not usually with his regular doc - she only works 3 days/week. Still all of the docs I've seen there have been excellent and follow-up appts are with whoever saw him the first time). The one time *I* was sick they got me in the same day too. I've seen probably 4 doctors there between my son and myself and they've all been great. I highly recommend Dr. Figueroa and also Dr. Tiemstra at UIC.

I see Dr. Chandra-Puri at Northwestern downtown on St. Clare Street. I really like her and she seems to remember us when we come in. She also has 2 year old twin boys, so I know she knows what it's like to be a mom - and never takes my concerns lightly.

Good luck in the switch!

You can only get "sick" appointments for that DAY. If your child is really sick--why would you want them seen "tomorrow"? If you bring them in the next day, they may not be sick anymore. Most doctors offices to the very same thing.

I go to Town and Country and have had nothing but wonderful support and service. I like to meet all the doctors--they are all great and very qualified. I see my regular doc for well-baby checks (things that you plan for in advance), I see which ever doctor is available when my daughter is sick.

Sorry you're having a rough time. Hope it works out!

We use Northwestern Children's Practice. Their website is www.sweetbabies.com. We have used them for two years and have never had a problem. You can take a sick child in every day of the week without an appointment. We find that very nice.

K.,
Hope your daughter feels better soon! Although my pediatrician's office has never taken my son's temperature, they are very good. If I suspect a fever, then I've already taken their temperature at home and just tell them what it was. It sounds like your daughter has a very high fever if it hurts her to be touched. A lot of ailments are viral and the docs can't do anything except minimize the fever if necessary and make them comfortable. However, if that's been the case then they should also be telling you that. Our doc's office also saves appointment times every day for "sick" visits.
Please email me if you are interested in our pediatrician and I will send you their info. They are located in Evanston.
