You REALLY need to OPEN YOUR MOUTH when you go to the doctor, and get EVERY scrap of information and every last option you can. YOU are your BEST and ONLY advocate.
I say this as a 28 year old surgically-menopausal woman.(Who can't have the fourth child she wanted) AND I have been menopausal since 26.
I had NO medical problems whatsoever.. then I had my first child (at 23)..All of a sudden, Im in pain everyday..Before I can figure out WHY, Im pregnant again.. So I end up having my gallbladder removed at 20 weeks of pregnancy. About a year after giving birth to my second child, I was finally diagnosed with endometriosis. I had surgery for it, but it was so agressive and came back so fast that I was having IBS because the endometriosis was adhering to my intenstines. My gyn had switched my birth control, and because of the IBS, I wasnt absorbing any of it and ended up pregnant with my third child (thank goodness!). I ended up spending the pregnancy on level 4 bedrest and in severe pain. When my new baby was 3 months old, I had a partial hysterectomy done (I had also grown fibroids in the three months since giving birth).
A month later, all the endo was back, so I started getting shots every month to put me in "fake" menopause. It was MISERABLE! Also extremely expensive. 500$ a shot. (liquid gold, they call it)
Anyway, I ended up going back for laprascopy and lost both of my ovaries in the process six months after the partial hysterectomy. I have been "menopausal" for two years now and I STILL havent been able to get the hot flashes under control. And I take two different full stregnth estrogen pills. So Ill probably end up with cancer and still have hot flashes.
BE VERY CAREFUL, thats all Im saying. Weigh every option you have. I had never had a single health problem and in the space of three, four years, I lost a LOT!
Do your homework. Dont take anyone else's word for something- its your life, your body- educate yourself and make decisions that you KNOW will be best for YOU and stand behind them. If you have to find a new doctor in order to be in charge of your own healthcare, do it! But for heavens sake, YOURE in charge.
