I have two female cats both spayed and declawed and I recently got hard wood floors and the hair balls are driving me crazy. They also lay on my furniture and the hair their also drives me crazy. I would love to give them to someone who would give them a loving home. They are both very nice cats litter box trained and I dont want to send them to a shelter for fear they may not get adopted and have to be put to sleep. If you know of anyone who loves cats and would want my two please help. THANKS

What can I do next?

I'm shocked that someone can actually write something like this. You have already done so much to these cats and now the hair drives you crazy.. I have not words. Please don't get any other animals.

Wow. I hope you do find someone to take these "very nice", trained cats of yours...for their sake. Hope those kids of yours pick up after themselves, too so they don't find themselves in the same boat.

Instead of gettig rid of your pets, because of hardwood floors and hair , sit down and talk to your kids about helping out, maybe using a dry swifer mop in between vacumes and a taped roller for the couches, hate to see two pets go to shelter if that is your last option.. Too many animals already in sheltersand put to death everyday... hope this helps with options

Are they hacking up hairballs? Or are they just leaving hair about? If it's actual hairballs, get yourself some Petromalt at the petstore. It's for treating hairballs specifically.

If it's just that they're leaving hair about, the Dyson animal is FABULOUS. A cheaper option would be one of those Swiffer dry mops. They work great. Have your kids run it around. You've got 3 so put them to work! LOL. Regarding the furniture, maybe if you got them a cat perch or a cat magnet or their own cat beds; however, cats like to lie on furniture so I think it would be hard to get them to stop -- especially if they have a favorite piece of furniture.

Finding a home for adult cats is really really difficult. If you can find someone here who can take them, great. There are so many cats out there that need homes in the first place and most people want to adopt cute kittens. Maybe you were never a cat person to begin with and didn't realize that fur and hairballs (along with the cat box) are part of the duties and responsibilities that come when you adopt a cat (or any animal for that matter). Hopefully you will consider this sort of thing in the future when making the decision to adopt another animal.

I have to agree with the other posts. Pets are not property to be gotten rid of when they are no longer convenient. I'm not saying there is NEVER a reason to find a pet a more appropriate home, when the welfare of the animal is at stake, but the reasons you listed are idiotic. We are talking about living, feeling creatures who probably love you, despite your lack of depth. Just remember the law of karma, what ever you dish out will come back to you someday.

as a former hardwood floor owner... with or without cats you are frequently going to have those dust bunnies. Of course it'll be worse in summer with cats, but even in the winter when cats don't loose much fur the dust bunnies gather... (I didn't have cats until a year after I bought that house and I was constantly swiffering the floors from day one of home purchase). I just hate for you to get rid of your cats to realize that afterwards. Also I found combing my cats fur regularly reduced the problem in the summer.

As far as the furniture goes you could also provide your cats with a better place to lay... my cats loved the "cat perch" I put on the window sill (a soft cat kind of shelf) and you can buy cat furniture they can hide/play/lay in and just teach them to stay off the furniture.

Contact Kool Kats to see what they recommend - ____@____.com a personal note, your post disgusts me. You don't deserve to have pets, if you're going to get rid of them because of their hair balls!

I agree with 2 of the other posts. When I read your post I was quite disgusted. Would you get rid of your kids if they shed hairballs or left hair on the furniture. When you take on a pet - you take the good with the bad and they become part of your family and your responsibility for their entire lives. For the cats' sake I hope you find them a good home. I have hardwood floors and 2 cats as well, and a good vacuum and good grooming habits make for a great solution!

If the only reason you want to get rid of them is the hair. I would first suggest tying the FURminator. They sell it at Petsmart and the kit is about $50.00 and it really does work. It has these special brushes that you comb through the animals hair and it pulls out all the loose hair. Hence gets rid of shedding.

Also, the cats hair balls are being coughed up because they cant pass the throat. If you will rub some olive oil on the cats paw they will lick it off and that helps make the hair smooth and easier to pass. I do this to my cat once a week and I haven't seen a hair-ball in a year.

I would like to talk to you more about your cats. We are looking to adopt one that is already fixed and up to date on shots recently. We lost our 8 month old tabby recently. We miss him so much. We are still paying his vet bills though so we it would be too much to start all over to get another one up to date on all its shots and get it spayed or neutered too. We live in Arlington. I have an almost 6 yr old son and a 2 yr old daughter. We want our cats to be inside cats only. Please send me a message if you think we would be a good match.
