Okay, I know this may sound silly, but I look like a smurf! Father in law sent us Red Dirt shirts from Hawaii. Well, he sent me a blue tye-dyed one. I washed it and wore it today. Went to the doctors, sitting in the waiting room and i noticed my hands were completely blue! Took my jacket off....my arms were blue also! Went into the bathroom...my chest, hands, belly, back, bra...you name it! Blue as a smurf! I could have died! LOL...So I came home, took a shower,,,a lot came off but I am still blue. I have no clue what to do. I hope the dye isnt harmful as I am pregnant...but I really need to get this off...from my waist up is blue! Any ideas?

What can I do next?

Although your father in law ment well, sounds like the shirt needs to be dumped! Yes, anything that our skin absorbs is absorbed into our bodies. That's why they make skin patch medications. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, but if you washed it and it still turned you that blue, it isn't worth wearing at all.

Natural oils and sea salt scrubs should help you. The exfoliating will help. Please don't use baby oil or any mineral oil based products. It will only cause a barrier on your skin and won't let anything through.

Unfortunately, we really do need to watch what we buy and where we buy it from. There was a very recent article about some sandals sold through Wal-Mart that were made in China that had a chemical dye in it that literally caused open sores on the feet of the people who wore them. I saw some pictures and it was unbelievable! We really do have to be buyer savy and better educated on what we put on our bodies - even our clothes!

If you would like more information, I would be happy to share. There is an abundance of it. Best of luck with your second pregnancy and take care of you too!

Your post reminded me of the time my 3yo used blue marker all over his legs and arms - I mean, solidly colored. It was the "washable" but not "my first" kind, so not terribly washable. Noxema helped, and so did Eucerin lotion (for both, rub into skin and wipe off with a dry washcloth.) Or if you have a deep tub, try some bath oil and a long soak with a book!

Always, always, always wash clothes before wearing! If you'd have washed the shirt before wearing, at least most of the blue would have been left in the water. To get it off your body, just keep showering. And ask your DOCTOR about if its harmful to the baby!
I used to live in WI & one day a mom & her little one were in front of me in the clothing dept. Boy had a runny nose; he wiped it on a skirt or skirt of a dress as they passed it! I already washed everything before wearing it but seeing that just made me even more determined! And with kids, a bad dye like that could possibly bring problems to their sensitive skin.

The other posts sound like good suggestions. I would also suggest exfoliating to take off some of the dead skin because i think it tends to soak up dyes more. Using a loofa and some exfoliating body wash or just lemonjuice and salt/sugar might help too. Good luck!

I doubt it is harmful. I know with creams and stuff you don't absorb much. However, this is very annoying for you.
I was thinking about baby oil, since that removes makeup (would hate to use that much make up remover). Or try to soak in a tub..not easy pregnant. I would concentrate on the really visible areas like hands and arms!

Good Luck!!
