I need help! My 20 month old has always been a terrible sleeper but it has gotten increasingly worse the past couple of weeks. He just squirms, fusses and rolls around, it is terrible. It is almost like he is having leg cramps or RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), he is constantly stretching his legs. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? I am considering contacting the pediatrician, I am literally falling asleep at work, twice yesterday. I am so exhausted and I know it can't be good for him either, help!

What can I do next?

I don't have advice but I am glad you asked the question because your son sounds like mine, who is only 5 1/2 months old. He squirms all night long and kicks his legs. I never thought about it being RLS or growing pains but you never know.

Good luck!

I am going through the same thing right now with my 22 mo old and just pulled an all nighter Sunday night. He is restless, won't sleep, wiggles around, moans, and fusses. He doesn't stretch his legs, but kicks them around constantly. Turns out, he has a ear infection and these symptoms are VERY common. Take him in and have him checked out by the pediatrician just to rule it out. Hope things get better soon.

Growing pains aren't uncommon either, I wonder if that's what's causing his little legs to go and go? My 2 year old kicks alot at night, but he doesn't stay awake. He will lay on his belly and just kick and kick his legs.

I'd call ur ped if you're concerned about a medical issue; follow your mommy instinct!

Otherwise, the only thing I can recommend is a great book that helped us solve sleep issues very early on (no crying it out) called The No Cry Sleep Solution. Good luck!!!

Kicking and thrashing around can also be a sign of gas pains. I swear by the simethicone liquid medicine. The name brand is mylanta, but the store brands work just as well. We nickname it baby gas medicine, but the whole family uses it! Even for adults the dosage is so low it lasts a long time. If you want to try a home remedy (a warm herbal tea) for general digestive problems, email me.

Hi, if this is restless legs then that means he is missing magnesium, a good quality multi vitamin might do the trick. Studies show that everyone over the age of 18 months should be on some form of multi-vitamins and supplements....

I can definetly recommend some really good quality vitamins for him and for yourself to increase your energy levels aswell as take care of his restlessness.
Let me know if you're interested in hearing more about it, ok :)

Bye for now

Have you tried giving him a dose of tylenol before bed? It might help make him more relaxed.
