Why not explain a baby starts as a tiny seed that grows bigger every day--it starts with a special kiss from the daddy to the mommy.
Ok, so yesterday I was fretting over what todo with my 5 year old for her birthday and today she keeps asking me how her baby brother got into my belly. We must talk to much at dinner because these type of questions always come up at dinner. I have explained how the baby will come out, great but she wants to know how the baby got in and i cant give her a basic answer like, when mommies and daddies love eachother they decide to have a baby and then poof there it is, she is a very smart and tough little cookie, please dont refer me to books, i hate the diagrams but i need to tell her the truth without giving me or my husband a heart attack while i try to explain it...ahhh help please!

Very Simple My dear: God gave you all another angel to raise! the truth works wonders!
Truly,

GOD BLESS YOU-ALL!
The same way when you were in mommy's belly.Daddy & I prayed to God for a beautiful baby girl & here you are just what we prayed for! Lolla-mother of 5 & g-ma of 9 & please don't do a spa date with a child,Im sure anything under the sun would be more fun for her than that-alone time at the park just the 2 of you, kids want your time not spa dates.
I think just telling her the truth might be the answer. It's kind of dull if you think about it, and being as clinical as you can might bore her. My mom is a nurse so when they started talking about it in school around 8 or 9 she explained it, even going into those boring diagrams. I lost interest very quickly. Or check with the pediatrician, they might have a better way to explain the birds and the bees, so to speak. Good luck! Jen
Carmela,
My son was 2 1/2 (now 5) when I got the question. I also had to explain it to my 6 year old when I got pregnant who is now 13. Your daughter is a little older. What I did, I went to the book store and bought a book specifically written for children (for the life of me I can not remember the title of it)and it explains how babies are made. This is something that you might consider doing for your daughter. I found the book at Barnes and Noble in the childrens section. It helped me a great deal.
Good luck.

Carmela,
I have 2 boys 12 and 6 and when my 12 year old was little and I was pregnant he asked me the same question and I told him that God blesses mom and Dad's that love eachother with a baby so that he won't be alone. That usually works especially when you talk about God. Now my 12 year old is asking the real questions about sex and that's scary.
Hi Carmela,
First Congratulations! I just had my 5th child, i have 3 girls 16 years old 8 years old and 6years old and now 2 years old and 4 months old. I have been asked this question each pregnancy. I told my children that when you get married and decide to have children, that all girls are born with a seed, and when mommy and daddy decide to have children we ask God to turn that seed into a baby. I have used this and my children are satisfied, they asked what the seed is about and I just tell them that every girl has one because daddies don't carry babies. I hope this helps.
My son was born with a Heart Defect
see my sons journey at www.LiamLockhart.com
Congenital Heart Defects affect more children born each year than any other birth defect. They occur in 35,000 to 40,000 births each year in the U.S. alone. They are the number 1 cause of neonatal and infant death. Give to CHD research..be a blood and tissue donor, and encourage others to be, and make a diference in a child's life today.
February 14th, is A Day of Hearts - Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day!
* A candle loses nothing when it lights another fire... * Help spread awareness of our children's number 1 killer!
Read her the best book ever - Where Did I Come From. It explains things in a kid-friendly way. They do show naked pictures, but it's of cartoon "fluffy" people. You can find it in most book stores. I highly recommend it :-)
Carmela,
Do you have strong Christian beliefs? My oldest daughter and middle daughter (I have 3 children) have also asked and instead of dreading this topic, embrace it for what it is and tell your daughter what I have told my daughters. When a mommy and a daddy love each other, God knows they love each other and He (God) allows the mommy to become pregnant. It's not magic...make sure you don't allow her to believe that God is some kind of magician. Just explain that God knows when a mommy and daddy love each other and He blesses them with a child. For a 5 year old, this should be sufficient info. Later as she gets older, you can provide more details which she could understand. I hope this helps.
My six year old just asked the same thing. I simply told her that a man has a seed and a woman has an egg. when they love each other the seed and egg come together and a baby starts to grow in the mommy's tummy. She was very happy with this answer and didn't ask any futher questions.
My girlfriend and i also heard her explaining this fact to my girlfriends 5 year old son. It's important to remember that many times our children share their new found information with friends. I believe in telling the truth but details are not needed.
That's always fun, right? :-)
As the questions are more detailed, give more detailed answers. If "we loved each other so much that the love created another human" works.. great. But she WILL come back later wanting to know more.. answer as appropriate. I'm saying this because you're uncomfortable with the subject. My kids have always known about sex because the bible constantly deals with the matter. Also, we're homebirthers and know a little more about these things.
