I have had swimmers ear three times this summer. This time is the worst.. My husband says that my ear is so swollern that only a tiny tiny ant would fit in the canal..
It does get better with ear drops.. but has anyone found a way to prevent this conditon... -- By the way I really dont swim ...

I always used those wax ear plugs for my daughter. They worked great. They actually shape to the form of your ear. Good luck and I hope you feel better!

When I was a kid lived IN (at-lol!) a lake and got S.E. Our VERY OLD family Dr. told my mom to mix 1/2 alcohol and 1/2 vinegar and just drop a couple drops into the ear after swimming. The vinegar kills bacteria and the alcohol will dry out the ear canal. Old folk remedy but it does work.

I am currently recovering from a swimmer's ear infection for which I did go to the doctors for, but he told me to mix equal parts vinegar and alcohol, put about 4 drops in the ear, leave it in for a couple of minutes before letting it drain. He said low ph in the water allows bacteria to grow and the vinegar makes the moisture in the ear more acidic and the alcohol dries out the water. I had heard of this before but never would done it, but I do trust my dr., so I will try it next time. I don't know if it would help with a current infection, but maybe it will prevent one in the future.
Hello Lisa, Warm sweet oil or vinigar in the ear works well. After showers or baths make sure to dry the ear canal well by taking a hair drier on low or cool setting and direct it into the ear canal. My ENT doc gave me that advice and that was for dermititis of the canal. It has worked very well for prevention for me. She also adviced not to clean the wax out of the ear canal itself as that is a natural protective coating. Good luck.
