I would also try Aquaphor. I always put that on the kids after they have fallen asleep.
Good Luck!
dHi everyone! I have a 13 month old little girl and her lips have been really dry and chapped lately. I'm sure it has to do with the dry winter air. Yesterday, her bottom lip actually got a little split in it. Does anyone know if it's OK to use lip balm and if so what kind is safe for a child her age? Thanks in advance for any input. Tanya

what i would try to do is when she falls asleep i would try putting some vaseline on her lips. that way she won't wipe it off right away!!!
I do the same thing for my children that I do for myself...each evening I put Lansinoh lanolin on their lips (and mine). I've been using it since discovering it was a miracle product when nursing my son 5 years ago. It works on cuts, scrapes, dry skin...and nursing issues. And a tube goes a L-O-N-G way! And I know it's safe for anyone as it's OK for newborns to consume while breastfeeding! You can find it in the baby section at Target, Walgreens, etc.
Best of luck!

Hello Tanya, I would recommend pure grape seed oil applied frequently throughout the day and applying again just before putting your little one to bed. Pure bees wax is another harmless alternative product. Many over the counter products contain harmful petroleum or mineral oil. Grape seed oil is a wonderful over all way to make the entire body supple without harm. If a child should ingest grape seed oil, via hands, it would not harm a child’s delicate bio system. I have recommended both during my 15 years plus of teaching infant massage. L.

Vaseline and Regular Ole Chapstick works just fine!
When my daughter licks her lips and they get bad I make her use Blistex once. She hates it and says it burns (it does for a few seconds) but it heals her lips and then she uses Burt's Bees with pomegranate oil (in a tube) or Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm.
Of course, with your daughter being only 13 months, I would say to use Burt's Bees.
Actually, mineral oil and petroleum products CAN be absorbed into the skin but the fact that a baby can ingest vaseline if it's put on the lips is not good.
Tanya, do you have any olive oil? Just smooth a dot of it on your baby's lips and she will be fine!
If you want to use lip balm you could use anything by Burt's Bees. You can get it at Wal-Mart and it works SO well!
We do tiny (barely covered q-tip) bits of vaseline when they go to sleep at nap and bedtime. I'm highly skeptical that vaseline is "dangerous," "chemically-polluted," or "toxic" since it's not actually absorbed into the skin. What it does is prevent moisure from leaving the skin, thus it retains existing hydration. Plus is so cheap, why spend more money?
Good luck! I hope her poor lips heal soon!
Hi Tanya,
I found a brand called Sun Shades. It's made with all naturally derived ingredients. Beeswax and Melaleuca oil are the 2 main ones. It is safe for young children and softens your lips really fast and well. They have a few different scents too. Let me know if you want to try one.

Tanya, I like the motives lip balm. Motives® Hydrating Lip Balm contains vitamins C & A, hydrating hylaronic acid with collagen, shea butter, tangerine butter and natural tangerine oil to provide hydration and sooth dry, chapped lips for any age or gender. Makes lips so soft and hydrated. You cam find it at www.marketamerica.com/pamrorman.
Hope this helps

Personally, I'd stay away from petroleum based products. We use a bees wax lip balm that's natural (so shouldn't harm her delicate system) and seems to work well.
