Hi moms~
I have a 3 year old little boy who for the last few months has been scared to poop after having a hurtful BM. It disrupts our entire day as he will go and hide somewhere and will take 30 minutes at a time multiple times a day to try not to poop. It has been a major setback for potty training and I don't think it is very good for his system either. When he finally goes, it isn't hard and dry but very large and I'm sure painful.

I have tried increasing fiber in his diet. He eats pears, peas, apples, fiber-filled crackers, I have added fiber powder to his OJ. Just this week, I have started spiking his OJ w/ 1-2 oz of prune juice - its not working. As a final straw attempt, I gave him a liquid glycerin suppository - it worked to pass a large BM on Wed this week, but it didn't work when I tried it earler today. :(

Does anyone have any tips or advice?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Please try the Miralax. My son went through the same thing last Spring and that is what his pedi recommended. It does work. It makes the stool softer and easier to pass. They literally can't hold it in and once they go without pain, they won't be as afraid to go the next time. The only advice I have about it is go with the minimum dosage required to get the job done because my son had a small bit of stomach cramping until I lowered the dose to the minimum.

How much water does he drink? You might try mixing some water with apple juice. It usually does the trick with my oldest. With the baby, I give her karo syrup mixed with water.

I second the Miralax - it is wonderful at helping with what you are describing - my three year old twin boys need it occasionally when they get a little backed up

Talk to your pediatrician. My daughter had that problem and it got pretty bad; caused her to have really bad constipation. She prescribed Miralax, which is now over the counter. it's gentle and it solved the problem, but the longer the problem goes on, the longer it takes to heal.

My son did the same thing. We had to change is diet. We also sat him on the toilet every night at the sametime to go poop. I also gave him a orange prune every other day. Once he understood that if he goes when he needs to it does not hurt anymore. I also did the dispository's it did help him get him regualar. If these do not work call the dr he may have other options

Fleet makes children's enemas. I've never had the glycerin suppositories not work after 2 days of no pooping, but if they don't - the enemas are next.

Check out www.discoverlimu.com/jcarden. Original Limu!!
This is a superfood in a bottle and it gives your body the nutrients it needs. People usually have regular bm's without any problem and it helps the body heal itself on a cellular level.
It is not a medicine, it is great nutrition for your body.
Drink 2-4 ounces a day for 90 days and see how great you all feel. You will never want to be without it. Everyone can drink it from newborns to senior citizens.
Hope you will give it a chance.
Thanks, J.

Hello B.,

Also stop milk products for a few days. My daughter gets very constipated when she has milk products (she's not allergic to it but her bowels come to a full stop when she has cheese/milk/yougurt) As you're trying to get him regular, stop the milk. after a few days, re-introduce it to see if makes a difference. Good luck! ~C.~
