Help Finding Shoes for My Son?

I'm having a really tough time finding shoes for my son. He just turned 17 months two days ago, but is wearing a size 8 shoe. He's a good walker/runner, but I'd still like for him to have soft-soled or thin-soled shoes rather than thick, stiff shoes. Does anyone know of brands that typically have thinner/softer soles but carry up to size 8 or more (2-3 years)? He also has fairly wide feet, so that's an issue too.

What can I do next?

Both of my girls have always worn Robeez or Pedoodles. They can both be found online or at Scheels. Robeez are good for inside and Pedoodles are good for either. Pedoodles run about $30 but they last forever and are soooo cute!

I have a couple suggestions for shoes. I have done Stride rite for my older boys, but came upon See Kai Run shoes for my baby and love them!!! They are plenty wide, leather, light, and trendy. Not as expensive as Stride Rite either. I googled the name and found lots of places that sell them online (I also checked EBay- they are selling pretty high for used, I found some new ones on sale at a website for less than used ones!! Thats good though for resale :) I can let you know the website I used if you're interested.
Also, I love the store Shoe Zoo, its in Uptown- they have amazing shoes and excellent service by people who know kids shoes. I always start there and get my kids fitted properly. Then I can look around online for sales, although my older boys like to pick out ones from the store.
Have fun, boys shoes have come a long way!!

Robeez makes soft leather soled shoes in larger sizes. Their size 18 - 24 mos. fits sizes 7/8 and their size 2 - 3 years fits sizes 9/10. The larger sizes can be more difficult to find. Check www.robeez.com or www.zappos.com.

They aren't cheap, but have you tried Stride Rite? They carry wide shoes, measure the child's feet carefully and can special order things.

Try Stride Right when my daughter was a year old she had the chubbiest feet and this was the ONLY place I found to fit her feet at the time she was a 5 doublewide and we even had them special ordered. They have amazing shoes for growing feet and the soles are extremely flexable.

We no longer have that problem now she's 6 but I find alot of her shoes at Journey's for Kids they're in most malls forsure Burnsville,MOA I like trendy, shoes so that's my weakness. I just bought her a pair there today infact.

Another thing I was taught as a kid and now do with my own child is buy them a bit big, I feel for her big toe when she's standing with all her weight and I buy them to where she has atleat one big thumb print room of growth. I use to work at a daycare and saw alot of parents buy the shoes to fit perfectly and two weeks later the poor kids toes were all crammed tight. With doing that I get atleast 6mos.-1year of life out of my daughter's shoes. By the time she outgrows her shoes they're beat up anyways.

Another suggestion I have is those CROCS...omg they are the most comfortable things I have ever worn. I think they look silly, weird but I swear by them. They fit any feet, narrow wide you name it, they are stink resistant and so so comfy. My daughter loves them too. I just saw today they have like "winter" ones out with fur lined or something and I have seen they carry boots now too.

Get any style other than the slipper style as the elastic will cut into your son's foot if his feet are still chubby. Otherwise, we love them. We are on out second pair. They go up to size 10.25.

good luck!

Stride Right is a great place to look for well fitting shoes in a wide size. My son wears an 8D, and we've had the best luck here. I've tried Nordstrom and Shoe Zoo, but he always outgrows the width of these fancy shoes before the length. If he's going outside to play, I would recommend getting a shoe with a real sole.

Check out pedipeds. They are adding a toddler line with not-too-thin not-too-thick soles and are cute too. www.Pedipeds.com

I've heard good things about Isabooties (www.isabooties.com). I haven't tried them myself yet, but plan to when my daughter starts walking. I checked their website and they have an 18-24 month size that says it is the same as a 7-8.5 standard US size. It says they're 3 inches wide. Hope this helps!

My son has double-wide feet, so for the longest time we could only wear shoes from Stride Rite. I appreciate that they will fit shoes for him, and they even have a punch card for 1/2 off after so many pairs. I didn't like the idea of paying so much for baby shoes, but I have learned that those young feet are prone to malformation if they wear the wrong kind of shoes, or even used shoes. Now that he's older, we are able to find SOME shoes at Target that will accomodate his feet, but I would suggest investing in a good pair for now. For inside use, Robeez or Bobux, or even the Target line from Bobux, is great.

At that age they really suggest regular shoes for outside in order to protect the feet. Our son has wide feet so we go to Stride Rite. They do have some shoes with more flexible soles for early walkers.

I worked in a shoe store PT for years, so I knew what I was going to get for my daughter when she needed shoes. It's a shoe by Nike, the Baby Pico. It's white leather, which is easier to clean up than the mesh stuff, and has either a pink or blue Nike swoosh. It also comes in wide widths if he still has wider feet, and it comes in half sizes (which was a plus for us). They are great because it has the stability of a sturdy shoe for running around, but doesn't have that tall, thick sole that doesn't move...you can actually bend this shoe almost in half. I know they have the shoe at Famous Footwear (which often has free shipping), as well as Kohls, and I'm sure places like footlocker and sports stores. Sorry if I sound like a salesperson, but hopefully you'll at least look at these shoes as an option cause they were great for my (clumsy) duaghter when she first started walking, and we'll be getting them for my second daughter too.
