I have been very forunate to have been able to use a Medela breast pump machine for the first three months I have had my second child. However, the person who loaned it to me needed it back all of a sudden last week, and I am now without a clue as to how to find a rental that will be similar. Does anyone have a suggestion of a compnay who has economical rental fees that I could possibly obtain another medela machine through?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your input. After checking out the recommended resources and doing some price comparison I have decided to invest in a electric pump with the hope of being able to sell it after I am done using it.

I rented mine from Optimum Wellness:

You can also rent from Village Maternity in University Village:
http://www.villagematernity.com/pump_rental.html

See if your doctor will prescribe a breast pump for you -- you can then bill it to insurance. I'm not sure how often that happens, though. I was only able to do it since my daughter was premature and in the hospital for an extended period of time.

It looks like the pumps available at these places are "hospital grade" -- they are much better than the kind you can purchase at a store. So, they are much more expensive. Depending on how long you need to pump, it may be more economical to purchase a retail grade one for yourself.

Lastly, I found a page that lists a bunch of different places that do rentals:

Not sure that either of these will be any different than the two I mentioned, but it's worth a look.

Happy pumping!!

Hi - I dont know what their rates are but the Breastfeeding Center at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland (I dont know where you live) rents machines out. That would be a good place to call.
Also, there are always pumps on Craigs list too! I would just make sure that you are the second user...that is just my opinion.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and will be renting a pump from a company called Optimum Wellness. They deliver to the hospital or your home (in the seattle area) and have been very nice so far. Their prices seem standard if you pre-pay rather than pay month by month. I'm not sure all the brands they carry, but if you search them on the web they have a site that tells you everything available.

I rented from the Women's Center at Overlake Hospital. I can't remember what the deposit was, but it was only $50./month for a hospital grade pump with the let down pumping action & the ability to pump both breasts at the same time. I'd think other hospitals in the area would offer the same service.

I'm not sure of their fees, but Village Maternity at University Village also rents pumps.

i know that there is a shop in University Village that rents medella stuff - i can't remember what they are called, but it is the maternity store.

FWIW, i bought my pump - not a highest end one, but i think worth the investment as i planned to pump a fair amount for at least one child. I'm not sure where the price break is, but i wanted to mention it if you hadn't thought of the alternative.

Stevens Hospital will rent out machines. I don't know the cost because I never needed a pump.
