Two of my three children are having issues with thier teeth. My oldest has been seeing a Dentist and has been told that he has an enamal defecit. He has had some GI issues in the past and that has really messed up his eating habits. Nowthree of his teeth are almost gone and what is left is black. The Dentist says that there is not a root feeding those teeth and that his permanent teeth are ready to come through. My question is, how can I help this problem for getting worse and how can I help his eating habits???? My daughter is two and starting to have the same problems with her teeth. She eats a LOT better that my son ever did, but her teeth are doing the same thing. Her teeth are nor discolored very much yet, but I fear it happening soon. They brush daily and gargle with Floride. Any Si=uggestions??!?!?!?!???thanks!

What can I do next?

I'm kinda in the same boat as you so don't feel alone. I have ostioparosis (sp?) (brittle bones) that runs heavy on my moms side of the family. My dentist told me I have weak enamal on my teeth which could be because of that. I can brush till I'm blue in the face but I still get cavities. Now my daughter is getting her adult teeth in and she is getting brown spots on them. She started getting them on her baby teeth almost a year ago too. She has never had a cavity and goes every 6 months for her checkups. Well I took her to a dentist after we moved here and he said she may have fluorosis (too much floride) but it was too early to tell till she got somemore of her adult teeth in. Well she goes back tomorrow because her upper front teeth look horrid!!! It doesn't seem to bother her yet (kids teasing and what not) but to me it looks like she never brushes her teeth or is a heavey coffee drinker!! So I see what the dentist says tomorrow. From what I've read on the internt, this can't be reversed, only covered up. And I've read that bleaching can and can't be effective.

I just wanted to let you know that you aren't the only one dealing with this and I'll let you know what her dentist says so maybe being ahead of the game with your 2 yr old will help you out!!

Hi T.,

My bestfriend's son has a condition that promotes cavities very easily. He has to watch the sugar intake as well as brushing his teeth. T., check you water supply, some of the county water doesn't have any floride in it and can cause the minerals in the water to give cavities to your children. If your children are still using a pacifier or bottle eliminate that too. The rubber will produce germs that will cause cavities. As for the foods, lower the amount of acidity in their diet. I hope that will help some. Good Luck.

My 3yr old son has the same problem with his teeth and the dentist said the only thing you can hope is that the adult teeth come in normal! I know that it is a hard thing to deal with, but maybe porcelin veneers will help when they get older. Other than that, i wouldn't suggest letting your 2yr old garggle with floride! NOT HEALTHY! My dentist even said that my son shouldn't even use toothpaste until his adult teeth come in...just brush with water so as not to harm the enamel that is on his teeth right now.

Good Luck!

The best source for help would be a dental specialist and also your pediatrician. If your children are seeing a regular dentist please ask your pediatrician if there is a dental specialist they would recommend you take them too.

There are supplement drinks that you can buy for your children to make sure they are getting enough vitamins and also giving them a daily vitamin would help them get nutrition they are not getting from regular food. It's understandable that your children would be hesitant to eat due to teething problems so the mouth issue needs to be addressed immediately.

In the children's isle of the grocery store there are drinks for toddlers even if they are past that age that are vanilla and strawberry flavored. They are almost like adult Ensure drinks but for children.
