I agree with the gals that recommended Dawn dishwashing liquid....that's what they use for wildlife caught in oil spills!
My lovely two and a half year old decided to paint herself from head to toe with a family size jar of Vaseline. We are going to a wedding tomorrow, any idea how to get this stuff out of her hair? I really don't want her looking like we dipped her in grease. Is my only option a big sunday style hat? GAH....
So we tried the Dawn a few times and that did get a good bit out. However, it took several days and several washings for her hair to get back to normal. This kids is going to kill me....

As Rae recommended below: They use Dawn dish liquid to wash the birds affected by oil spills. You can also try a little baby powder to absorb the oil - just be very careful not to get any in her eyes or nose.
Dawn dish liquid. That stuff cleans anything..then, I would wash her with regular shampoo.
baby power USUALLY absorbs grease as does baking soda....
i would wipe her down with a dry cloth first! get as much off as you can...then try this:

Dawn dish soap....it might take two or three washes but it will come out...
Good luck
Johnson & Johnson no more tears. That stuff takes off varnish!
I Googled it and found what Beth said about using cornstarch. Good luck!!!
I would try mixing shampoo and baking soda 50/50. Mix it into a paste in the palm of your hand then lather it up. Wash with plain shampoo afterwards. I do this once a week to clarify my hair, and it worked when my son got baby oil all over his head. Be careful not to get it in her eyes though--and most importantly, Have a blast at the wedding!
My best guess would be Dawn dish soap.
AH!
Do you have cornstarch? I hear that if you remove most of it with a towel (or as much of it as you can get off), put cornstarch on the hair, shampoo it with your normal shampoo, rinse with hot hot water, towel dry it, then wash it a few times with dish soap. I hear dish soap works really well, you just have to wash it a few times. Good Luck!!!
I bet her skin is really soft now. lol
What about a baby sitter? OR is their an 800 number on the jar?
No "big Sunday hat" will stay on a baby for very long.
Blessings....
I would use Dawn dishwashing liquid, to get it out, then use regular shampoo and conditioner to restore her hair. They use Dawn to get out the oil on the animals, I figure this is a good guess! Good Luck :)
Oil cuts grease. Try thinning the thick vaseline by rubbing in something like olive oil and then shampooing it.
Try a degreasing soap like Dawn dishsoap or something along those lines.
I would try Neutrogena Anti Residue Shampoo that removes product buildup!
dish soap would be my first guess...prob will take a couple washes but it should cut the grease :)
