Put neosporin on them to heal. Have him wear gloves and keep his nails trimmed close.
Right after xmas my 4 yr old boy got a boo-boo the size of an eraser head right in the middle of his forehead. He kept picking it so we put a bandaid on to cover it. This resulted in some irritation under the bandaid, so now he has three red sores right in the middle of his forehead that he refuses to leave alone. We've tried bribery, positive reinforcement when he doesn't pick, logic and even his pediatrician told him not to pick when he was at his 4 yr. check-up. They look so yucky and will probably leave scars soon.
Can anybody offer any suggestions? I don't know what to do to get him to leave them alone.
Thanks
Put neosporin on them to heal. Have him wear gloves and keep his nails trimmed close.
Try keeping him busy with activities that require him to use both hands, so he doesn't have one free to pick at the sores.
Also, maybe you could get him some sort of headband to wear that would cover it? Or maybe even just a hat. Have him help pick it out. Make it exciting for him. Something from a character or super hero that he likes??
It is probably itchy. Try a little cortisone cream or the neosporin with pain relief. That will help it stay moisturized and alleviate some of the discomfort. Once it is all healed up, try some of the scar reducing creams for kids.
