Does anyone know how to get professional strength nail polish off the skin of a toddler?
Up date 8/4: The last of it came off with his bath last night.
Thank you all for your help. I decided to give it some time (and slowly pick at him). I tried to wipe it off before it dried but that just made a mess and ruined a good face towel. Then I tried the remover but that made me nervous and wasn't doing a good job anyway. So I soaked him for a while in a warm soapy bath. That took some of it off. I called poison controll and she advised me to use baby oil. That didn't work at all. But she told me it would wear off without any concerns and that the remover could be more irritating to his skin than the polish itself. But it wouldn't be dangerous if I did. I got some on my hands too so I'll experiment on myself. I'll let everyone know when it all comes off or if I find something that works.
If you are looking for a good nail polish that doesn't chip or peel, get Revelon's professional long lasting polish. It's less than five dollars and comes with a clear coat for shine. It really does what it says.

I don't know if you need my advice anymore, but I will give it anyway. Nail Poish remover any kind is an acid so apply so kind of base to neutrilize the affect, ie..baking soda, Potassium hydroxide (found in soft soap), or Magnesium hydroxide (found in Milk of Magnesia), hope this helps.
If you are talking about fingernail polish, you should be able to get some nail polish remover with acetone and get it off.
Oh no, bless your heart!!!! For things like this, I use anything that has a lemon oil base to it such as "Goof Off!" You can find Goof Off! pretty much anywhere but I buy mine at Lowe's or The Home Depot.

Have I been there and done that. My daughter, now 24, was taking a nap one day. I kept smelling something. You know, you know you recognize it but just can't place it? I finally realized what it was and went upstairs to find my adorable 2 year old completely covered in bright magenta nail polish from the salon I bought to touch up my nails. Not only were both her legs covered from the bottom of her shorts, but her arms below her sleeves to her fingernails and her eyebrows, cheeks and lips with the help of a mirror. The bed frame was decorated, the mirror was decorated, along with the dresser, wall and doorknob. I had no clue that those tiny little bottles held that much polish in them. It took 4 bottles of non acetone polish remover to get it off her over 4 days and we even ended up going to church with her painted. I ended up painting the wall, dresser and bedframe. Had to get a new doorknob cause I stripped off the paint trying to get the polish off. Don't fret, your toddler won't suffer permanent damage and you make sure you have pictures. They will come in handy when you have to have ammunition during the teenage years. "Honey, of course you can stay out past curfew....we will just blow up this adorable pic of you to the size of a posterboard so we won't have any trouble finding you at the party when we come to pick you up."

Just have her soak in a warm bath, it comes off pretty easy, don't worry, my girls have gotten into my polish all the time, your fine!
First and foremost as most people haved advised cut yourself some slack -kids do the most phenominal things, they are built to be durable. It will wear off on its own but if you are desperate to feel beter acetone and then warm soapy water. Most of all don't make your self wrong!!! Kids will do the darndest things. Contact me anytime - have 2 amazing and mischevious kids.
have you tried non acetone polish remover? Or maybe too the goo-gone product. Once clean, just wash the skin well with soap to remove residue, and always great to follow that up with a good moisturizer or even something like aquaphor.

M....don't beat yourself up!
Children especially TODDLERS...get into EVERYTHING! This is how they learn...granted it doesn't make us as Mom's feel good, but you have to remember when we deliver our babies or get our children they do NOT come with an Owner's Manual and we have to learn on our own and with the help of the Good Lord, Good Friends and Other mothers.
Any nail polish remover will work, but just make sure to wash the skin afterwards with soap and water. I also find that baby wipes CLEAN EVERYTHING. I use them when my daughter takes markers to her body or the carpet...they clean up beautifully.
Again, do not worry you are a GREAT Mom if you weren't you would not be asking for help.

Try covering the skin with peanut butter and let it stay on for a little while.
Don't fret! I'm 42, have a 20 year old son, an 18 year old son, and a 17 year old daughter. These things are going to happen. I'm sure you are a wonderful Mother. Fingernail polish remover is the best thing, and then soap and water after that.
Just use some polish remover and then wash his/her skin with an antibacterial soap. Don't panic...
little bit of acetone should work.
you could also try just a good long soak in a warm tub, wrinkle the skin and it should come off.
i think we've all been there, maybe not with nail polish but in our own way. ;)
Don't worry. Trust me it has happened to us all at one point or another. And if it hasn't, it probably will ;-). I would say the same, though. Nail polish remover, then wash it really well. It won't hurt his skin if you wash it right off. As much as we try, we can't watch them every minute of the day, so take heart, we have all been there.

Is the child covered in it??? Or is it just a little bit?? A little bit of nail polish remover won't hurt the child, you just wouldn't want to bathe them in it. Believe me, I know, my son drank some a couple of months ago!! I wasn't pretty ashamed myself!

ALOT OF REMOVER!! Like a whole bottle, If that doesn't work try witch hazel, (can you tell I have been through this before). Just some FYI- witch hazel gets off markers, dye, pretty much anything. Also I would use the polish remover first then once the layer is off of the skin, use the witch hazel to help fade it!! You can get the witch hazel at wal-mart, and get som prof. stregth remover from Sally's Beauty Supply.Let me know how it turns out!!
Just regular nail polish remover. That is what works on my 2 yr old!
