If it's soap scum, Comet Bathroom cleaner works wonders for me. It's not the powder stuff that you typically think of when you hear 'Comet'. They make a spray...
Okay so I am not the best cleaner in the world. Activities just seem to take over all the time I have. If I see it is dirty I clean it. Now, I am having bathroom troubles. My shower seems to have a coating on it. The water repels off of it. I am assuming this is soap scum. I am looking for a good product to use. Also, what is the trick to getting the ring out of the toilet. I have used some products and have scrubbed. Is there any hope.

Thanks to all the moms that answered my question. I will be sure to use some of the ideas and products. Now I just need to find the time.

Hi J.,
For your tub you can try a homemade Softscrub mixture of baking soda mixed with a mild soap, like Castile or Murphey's Oil soap in a small cup. You're going for a frosting texture. Add some drops of lavender or peppermint essential oils for fun if you'd like. Scrub it all over your tub, and then let it sit. Later, you can rinse it off, and find your sparkling tub walls again.
For toilet rings, try getting a pumice stone for cleaning. Rub it on your stains, and watch them disappear! To whiten your toilet, sprinkle some borax in it with some lemon juice and just let it sit and work it's whitening magic!
Good luck!
I am the same way. I really like Tilex, it works really well for me. Spray it on and let it soak in for a little...then scrub and wash. Just make sure your bathroom is compaitble with the formula though. Also, Magic Erasers (mr. clean) are really handy too! The ring in the toilet - use whatever that toilet cleanser is, with the slanted neck. Get one with BLEACH.
HOpe it all works out for you.
For the cleaning it depends on if you want to use chemicals or not. For the shower, if you want to go chemical cleaner--I absolutely recommend Scrubbing Bubbles or Soft Scrub. If you want to go natural cleaners--make a paste with baking soda and lemon juice. The baking soda will act as your abrasive and the lemon juice will help to act as the antibacterial agent, as well as leave a nice smell. For the toilet--chemical cleaners I suggest is either "The Works" or "Rid Iron". Natural--get as much of the bowl water out of the toilet as possible and fill it up with white vinegar. Or, if you have any cola (preferrably Coke), you can use it in place of the vinegar.
for the ring in the toilet i pour some baking soda around it then pour white vinegar on top. It gets all foamy, then I let it sit for a while and it usually scrubs off easily. I try to do this once a week, so it's not as hard to scrub the next time. for the shower I use white vinegar, mixed with some water and a little liquid soap.
I've been a customer of a great store that makes green products for over a year. I love the results I get. Like nothing else out there that I've tried. PM me and I'll tell you all about it!

I do not have an answer for the commode except to use a pumice stone.
The shower, I use Gel-gloss on a regular basis ~~ like every six months. Follow directions and it is some work, but will work. Also, when your family is showering, make them wipe the shower down after every shower. You will have very little problems.

It might sound crazy but believe me Bar Keepers Secret works wonders! When we bought our older home the white tub was orange from hard water (toilet also) I scrubbed both with this and they both look brand new!! Give it a try, (It looks like comet, tall container)
Kaboom or Bam work really well on the soap scum.
I just found something called BANG at the DOLLAR TREE!!!
It's works just as well as Kaboom or Bam and it is only $1.00!!!
Mega Foam by scrubbing bubbles works great! spray on and leave for 15 minutes or so and spray off! no scrubbing. Its safe for all types of shower walls and tubs. I use it in the toilet too and it works
I like to use Kaboom it works really well on the soap scum. I can't use Tilex because I'm allergic to it.
Any good name brand toilet bowl cleaner works great. Stay away from the "Works" brand as it's just like water and doesn't stick to the sides of the toilet. I use a Dobie for a lot of my scrubbing. The magic erasers work really well. I also like the Clorox dropins for the back of the toilet. Then your potty will stay cleaner longer.
I work with an all natural company that has been around for 20+ yrs they have the best patented products that are safe if you would like some info PM me. Now once you get your toilet clean check out flylady.net its free and has changed my life I hardly ever have to clean thanks to her simple routines and guidance :)I have been with her for 3 yrs and my house is amazing and easy to keep clean! Best of luck!

For the soap scum you could try using a magic eraser. Soap is bad for showers. Are you opposed to using body wash instead as this does not leave soap scum? Soap scum also is left on your skin, bodywash does not. For the toilet you could try muriatic acid sold at Lowes and Home Depot. Good luck! I own a house cleaning buisness.
I like the Clorox Green Cleaners or Method products. Whatever kind of walls your shower has--tile or fiberglass--a Magic Eraser will work awesomely on soap scum. They work on just about everything. Good luck.
I have had good luck with scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner. You may want to spray a couple coats and let it sit on for a little while before scrubbing.
For the toilet you may want to try some bleach and let that sit also - I have a problem where the ring goes away, but seems to come back fairly quickly - not sure if bad water contributes to this or not.
