I am shopping for a new protective set for our 5 year old autistic son. He has a Bob the Builder set that includes the helmet with the sunvisor (the helmet comes out further in the front and protects when your childs falls forward....lol also works to block the sun here in AZ) and the elbow and knee pads. We unfortunately only purchased one set at the time and he has almost worn through the pads. The helmet is still in ok shape, but it is getting small for him (I have used it for so long by adjusting the pads I added to the interior of the helmet).

I have looked out on Amazon, Target and Walmart. It seems I can only purchase helmets with knee pads or the sets we like are sold out.

I am sure I have over looked some places to go and would really appreciate everyones help!!! As with everyone with special needs children we are looking for very good construction and a reasonable price. We are not rich but are willing to pay a fair price for quality items.

Thanks Ladies I know you all can Help!!!!!

What can I do next?

How important is Bob the Builder to him? Is it for a ride on or just something he wears? Must it be a matching set? Would a set like for skateboarding work for him? If he isn't attached to Bob, you can get plain black knee and elbow pad sets at Target in the isle where the sell skateboards. (here's an example)

Then you can get whatever helmet you need.

I got a nice helmet at Toys R Us for my daughter for skate boarding. After I bought it I felt kind of guilty for using those cheap styrofoam helmets. If possible definitely spend the extra money for a proper fitting, better constructed helmet.

If the sets you like are out, you can usually find them online...

Have you tried Dicks or Olympia? A sports store might have more than Target or Walmart

Andy really didn't care what was on the darn padding just that it pads. I am not sure what you are using it for, for me it was biking. So I got him a bike helmet and then a set for roller blading but hid the wrist things from him since he would want to use them on his bike, just in case.

You have no idea, well maybe you do, how great it was when he rode the darn bike with just the helmet! :)
