My 5 1/2 months infant keeps having difficulties in placing his right hand in the mouth..the hand constantly moves in back and forth movements when he does that, meanwhile the left hand Is stable & it's very easy for him to place it in the mouth.
Is this something to worry about?
Thank you all for the responses, all the answers have been helful..having seen the ped..she confirmed the same responses you all indicated..I don't worry anymore & probably excited that he may be a lefty something I always admired & wished I was..😃😃.

Just a guess but maybe he's left handed. My babies favored one hand over the other early on and used it more than the other. I think to begin with waving hands around etc. is pretty standard, isn't it? We used to have Cheerios and bits of lunch go flying off the high chair tray if I recall.
Take a video of this and ask your pediatrician at your son's next appointment to ease your mind.
Your child is learning left/right dominance. I would say he'll be ambidextrous and a left dominant.
If you are really concerned? Talk to his pediatrician.
I personally wouldn't worry about it. He's not even a year old and learning.

Video tape him eating (don't put your phone or camera in his face) set up a tripod and put the camera on it and just leave it so the doctor can see the natural movements.

what does the childs pedi have to say about this?
i wouldn't worry about it as long as everything else seems normal, maybe your childs a lefty and is figuring this out
Babies that young don't really have a dominant hand yet. They are still figuring out how their bodies even work and how to control it. If you are really worried, talk to his doctor.
I disagree that this is about right-hand vs left-hand and dominance. You ned to have him evaluated by a pediatric neurologist.
My own son had a weakness in his writing hand, and he needed OT for it. He also had a sensory issue that we worked very hard on.
Your baby is very young and has a lot of developing to do. But, I would not ignore this. I really wouldn't.
Your baby is probably left handed! I had a similar situation when my son was a baby, only to find out he was a "southpaw".
Let your child use whichever hand he's comfortable with.

I'm a pediatrician. This is much too young to have definite hand dominance. It might be normal but I would definitely ask your pediatrician & consider a pediatric neurologist. Video recording would be helpful.
