Hi ladies,
I miscarried back in May and ever since I have been having VERY heavy bleeding with my periods. I am very regular on my cycle and hardly get cramps or very little and never had problems before hand. I bled so much when I miscarried that I eventually passed out (long story). Anyway, I am wondering if anyone else had any problems like this if they miscarried, is there anything that I can take or my OB could give me or do to help control the bleeding? I wear black pretty much the entire week becuase I have leaked and am very concious of this.
Thanks for any advice.

What can I do next?

I am so sorry to hear of your loss and Complications. I had three miscarriages in 2006 so I know what you might be experiencing. I have always had haeavy periods, but they were much heavier after the miscarriages and different too. My last miscarriage in December was at 10 weeks and the bleeding was the worst then. I did not have a D and C, because I prefer to go the more natural route, but I would have had one if things had gotten much worse. Your hemeglobin is/was obviously low since you passed out. I had to take Iron to help mine come back up. I had about 6 weeks of VERY heavy bleeding after my loss. A D and C can help, but not always. They also have some medicine they gave me to help your uterus contract to slow the bleeding. It seemed to help after about a week, but your situation is a little different from mine because I was bleeding the whole six weeeks after the baby died. The biggest concern is to make sure there is not any tissue left over from the misscarriage. A good ultrasound radiologist can see almost anything, but sometimes a D and C is the only way to remove a small pice of tissue that is stuck. That tissue can cause excess bleeding. If it were me I would try the medicine first if it still will help in your situation. If you were further along it might just take a few months for your uterus to shrink back to normal size, but I would definitely ask your OB and get in for an appointment just to be safe. My prayers are with you as you seek the best options. God Bless.

You need to see your doctor. I have 3 sisters and we all have various "girl" problems and my mom works in an ob office. Your bleeding could be a sign of a number of things - serious or not. You should go in and tell your ob what's going on.

First talk to your doctor as there may be a reason you are bleeding heavy. Hormonal, thyroid disease etc. After being evaluated by a physician and there is no specific abnormality that needs to be treated, then anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen, Advil or Aleve, that can cut down the amount of bleeding by about 50%. You try to start them 1-2 days before your period and then take them very regularly as directed. Talk to your doctor about the dose to take because the over the counter doses are quite a bit lower than the dose doctors recommend. There are some medications that these drugs can interfere with and some people have medical conditions that they shouldn't take anti-inflammatory medications.
These medications can make your life so much better if you are just prone to heavy periods, but check with your doctor first!

So sorry to hear of your loss. This happened to a member of my family, she also needed a D and C procedure, it helped her get back on track. I would talk to your OBGYN about it. Hope it gets better soon!

I have never miscarried but you might want to ask your ob/gyn about fibroids. they also can cause other gyn/ob problems...don't know how they might contribute to miscarriages but it is worth asking about and have an ultra sound to see if you have any. That is one of the best ways to see if you have them...although some doctors can palpate them...but how well???

first, I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. I also miscarried and have had heavy periods since. I am not sure if there is anything your doctor can give you. Since my miscarriage I have had a child and my periods have lightened back up again. So mabey if you are planning on another child it will self correct afterwards. If you aren't planning for another child for a while check with your doctor she may be able to give you something other than birth control that would help. Good luck

Hi. I had a miscarriage before I had my son, now 13 months. I had a D & C procedure and that seemed to clear all the bleeding up. Did you have any procedures after your miscarriage? I think this helped me. 3 months later I was pregnant with my son, Taylor. I would talk to your doctor about options that might help you with the bleeding. Good Luck. I hope everything works out.
