Have you tried looking for contacts through the House Research Institute (formerly the House Ear Institute on 3rd on Los Angeles)?? I called on their research physicians years ago and they seemed to really be the pioneers in cochlear implants.
Hi Mamas - I am fairly new to mamapedia (loving it, BTW)!!! I was wondering if there are any moms out there that have a Cochlear Implant? I suddenly lost my hearing back in 2003. Six months later, I had implant surgery in one ear (they were not performing bilateral implants back then).
I have loads of questions, answers, comments, stories, etc. and would love to hook up with any one else who is either a recipient or has a loved one that has received an implant. It's amazing, when I see someone with an implant on, I instantly feel connected to them in a way that is indescribable. I would love to connect with anyone out there . . . possibly start a "group" of some sort . . . THANKS!
And, Yes, in fact, the House Ear Clinic is where I had my surgery. My surgeon is the same doctor that did Rush Limbaugh's surgery. They are absolutely THE BEST! I am a mentor for them. I do email correspondence with adults who have lost their hearing suddenly as I did. I was just hoping to hook up with some other women who were mothers going through the day-to-day stuff that I am going through. Thanks -

I work with a child who has a cochlear implant, he is actually doing wonderful.I am with him in classes and band. I know music better than helping him with hearing.
He seems to hear almost everything! I am learning cued speech which is supposed to help and he spent several years at a school for the deaf. I am not yet well versed in it. But he is moving along quickly !The cued speech is extra help.
But sometimes I am not so sure he needs me to use it anyway.
I myself have a hearing problem, not as severe as yours, my hearing aide broke and I can't afford a new one. I watch lips...was placed in the front of classes when I grew up and if you have the opportunity to use the implant, it appears that it is a wonderful way to help.
I would love to join your group as it would possibly help with my work and as I do not think I would use a cochlear implant, I do have hearing problems and think anything I can learn about it would be great.
I don't have on or any one with one but I am so happy they are doing such a good job for you!
http://www.mdjunction.com/ is a place where you can find online support groups for about anything. Good luck and welcome to Mamapedia!
Just thought I'd share this heartwarming video of a baby getting a cochlear implant. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=227366017336828
I have a severe to profound loss in both ears and wear hearing aids both ears but someday could qualify for this. Not sure on it yet but would like to keep in touch to hear your story and more details of your CI.
