Hi Moms,

My son is starting swim lessons this week. I'll be picking him up right after work and we'll have about 15 minutes before his lessons start.

What's a good thing to eat quickly that will tie him over till after the lesson? I'll be picking him up at 5:30, and the lesson starts at 5:45. Something he can eat in the car that will not make him feel sick from exercising.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Nothing. Anything he eats will not have enough time to digest and could cause stomach cramps or could just come back up if he swallows too much water the wrong way. I would just wait to eat until after swim lessons. Maybe a snack in the car on the way home, if there's a significant time delay because if the drive and dinner prep.

swimming is not the kind of exercise that makes you feel sick form the exertion.

but it is best not to eat a big mac an large fries before swim class.

I do this 1x per week with my DD, she is almost 3. I pack a thermal bag with a couple blue ices and a few snacks like a tortilla /lunchmeat/cheese roll up, applesauce pouch and raisins + a small water and a roll up / drink for myself. She usually just eats a couple bites of the roll up and the applesauce before the lesson. After the lesson she is usually hungry so she eats the rest on way home. Have fun!!

I would recommend fruit: apple sauce pouches, bananas, grapes, apple slices...

Do not give your child milk-based products before physical exertion. Milk takes a while to digest and comes back up quickly. You really don't want to puke in or around a pool.

Low fat chocolate milk before the swim, or maybe better after. The single serving prepackaged ones like Horizon, Costco's Kirkland, or Organic Valley have don't require refrigeration if unopened so they are easy to tote around.
