Does anyone have ideas of healthy foods that a 16 yr old girl would like? We definitely need more variety. She does like celery with peanut butter, rice cakes, fruit, homemade pizza with low-fat cheese, homemade soups, turkey burgers, etc. I would like any of your ideas for meals & snacks, including a sweet dessert.
Appreciate your help!

This is a great light dessert! It is much better if you prepare it the night before you plan to serve.

Ingredients:
1 can (20 oz.) crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Fat Free Sugar Free Instant Reduced Calorie Pudding & Pie Filling
1 cup thawed COOL WHIP LITE or COOL WHIP Sugar Free Whipped Topping
1 pkg. (10 oz.) round angel food cake
10 fresh strawberries

MIX pineapple and dry pudding mix in medium bowl. Gently stir in whipped topping.
CUT cake horizontally into three layers. Place bottom cake layer, cut-side up, on serving plate; top with one-third of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers two times.
REFRIGERATE at least 1 hour. Top with berries just before serving. Store leftovers in refrigerator.

Hi! this is a great question - there are so many things that are "healthy" but that taste good:
- healthy muffins - i.e. banana w/ wheat flour / oat meal / blueberry - you can get many recipes on line. I always cut down on the sugar that they call for and just add more banana
- quesidillas - wheat tortillas w/ red pepper chix, low fat cheese
- baked tortilla chips - w/ homemade salsa , cucumber, tomato, black beans, prepared salsa, lemon juice - easy to make and very good
- anything on the grill is great
DESERTS:
- low fat icecream - limit the serving size
- frozen fudge bar w/ natural peanut butter and whipped cream mix together

I have a 2 1/2 yr old and I add veggies to everything - lean beef meatballs w/ added spinach, grilled cheese w/ butternut squash

The biggest thing is moderation and portion control - limit refined sugar.

I hope some of these ideas help!

You could send her to a bookstore and have her choose a cookbook to give her ideas. There are many cookbooks that talk about how to "hide" more nutritional ingredients in snacks and meals. Get her involved in the planning a preparing of the snacks. This way she may even learn some things about nutrition.

My favorite is a non-fat, unsweetened chocolate banana smoothie that tastes like a chocolate milkshake! Into a blender, pour one cup of skim milk. Add 1 tsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 banana (frozen or fresh - but frozen makes it very thick and yummy!) Blend until cocoa dissolves and the mixture is smoothe. Enjoy!!
