Healthy Eating for Toddler

My 13 month old is having trouble eating his veggies for the last few months pretty much since we switched to table food instead of puree. He will play and then drop them on the floor. The only way I can get him to eat some is to mush into bread, sprinkle cheese over them, or in applesauce. I know it is probably just a phase but anyone have any other suggestions on getting him to eat more veggies? I don't have a lot of time to cook so simple recipes or websites I could go to would be great!

What can I do next?

I remember that stage. I got into "sauces"...either for him to dip things into or put something on top to attract him with the flavor. For spinach I did butter and lemon; grated cheese on potatoes; he liked zucchini with olive oil and salt; carrots dipped in a thickish dressing. Don't feel bad that your child is not eating them plain, they get there.

My son loves peas w/ melted cheese on top. He loves cheese, I don't know if he'd like the peas w/out the cheese. Cheese is healthy so I think it's fine to melt cheese over his veggies. Also, don't stress out about it too much. Today he could hate a veggie, tomorrow he could love it. My son is like this. One day he loved broccoli, since then, he doesn't want to eat it. He is 19 mo. & I still supplement veggies w/ babyfood veggies (jarred puree). I know he's old to eat babyfood, but hey, he needs his veggies somehow. If I feel him lacking, I'll give him his favorite puree veggies.

Dear AK,

At that age and still now, I used cheese whiz. I put it on corn, grean beans, broccil any veggies I could think of. Does he like potatoes? My friend puts a little bit of butter and some seasoning salt on her kids veggies. Another one of my friends puts ketchup on her kids. Try giving him just the veggies first, then after a couple of minutes give him the rest of the food. what about if you mush the veggies, just not puree them. Good luck.

I know the feeling of being worried about healthy eating. I have the same thing for my sons and the one is 8 and still has trouble eating veggies. But I found a great product that has solved the worry and my boys both eat!! Interested just message me.

I still give my son, now 2, some puree veggies. He loves the squash, but won't eat regular squash no matter how I make it. Depending upon his mood he will eat green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, or potatoes with butter, salt, and pepper. If I put cheese on top he just eats the cheese. I just got the book Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. The recipes have veggie and/or fruit purees in all kinds of foods. I will be trying some of those. Good luck.
