We are celebrating my son's birthday at his preschool this Thursday and I need some ideas of what to make for 18 kids. They had a birthday celebration today with cupcakes and they have their valentine party with junk food soon too. I was hoping to get some ideas for something fun and EASY but not full of sugar. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My friend brought in make your own yogurt parfaits. Mostly just yogurt and a variety of fruit toppings that the kids could choose from.

At our school there are so many allergies its hard to make anything, including junk foods. I generally like to bring unsalted or un-buttered popcorn and pop it there. I dont know your school rules on that, we have to do it at the school to be certain no nuts or anything touched it. I like fruit pizza... sugar cookie dough for crust, made with splenda. light cream cheese spread on it, with different fruits as the "toppings". Not sure how healthy or un-junk that is but I like it and so far most kids do too.

Fruit people - like salad people but use fruit - if it seems like a lot of work you could - 1) bring in paper plates of the ingredients (berries, kiwi slices, pineapple, whatever colors and shapes you want) or 2) just do faces

My school tells us no cupcakes and I do comply. If everyone brings in sugary junk for their birthday, they will be eating garbage every week. Happily our head of school agrees - if a parent brings in sugary treats or drinks, she sends them right back home. I think those are called consequences :)

If your son's birthday is on Thursday the 9th, so is mine! I did this as a project to go along with a book report for my friend's son and the kids LOVED it. I went to the dollar store and bought each child a plastic dog bowl. We wrote each child's name on the bowl with a Sharpie pen, and filled the bowls with cocoa puffs instead of dog food. Granted, cocoa puffs are still laden with sugar, but far less than cake I am sure. The kids pretended to be puppies and ate from their own bowl, taking them home as a party favor. You can also get stickers and have them cover the bowl. It is both a craft project and a snack. Good luck and happy birthday to your little one.

For my childrens' preschool, I usually make apple cinnamon muffins and then I let them pick what kind of baking cups they want me to make them in. My son usually will pick dinosaur or pirate baking cups. I use an organic box mix mady by Dr. Oetker that my kids really like. It is a little bit healthier than cupcakes.

My kid's school tells us no cupcakes. Sometimes I comply, and sometimes I bring them in. My kids only eat sweets on special occassions, and their birthday's count. But last year I did popsicles for both of my kids in school. This year we are doing cupcakes for all 3 classes for Vday, and we'll see about birthday's.

I am considering making some of the Hungry Girl recipe cookies.
