I was wondering if anyone out there has a good health insurance with decent maternity coverage. Right now I'm with Mega Life Insurance and it's good but doesn't cover maternity in the state of TX....nuts I know! We have them because my husband is self employed and it works good for us but when I was pragnant the first time we were able to get on medicade but don't want to do that again if I get pregnant again. Thanks for the help in advance.

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
I have the same issue, and recently got on Golden Rules: united healthcare plan. They have an add-on maternity coverage which kicks in right away (don't have to wait 9-12 months to get pregnant like with other programs), and costs about $100/month (in addition to your regular coverage).
Also, you can cancel the maternity coverage at any time (when you have your baby)...
Hope that helps!

Hi S.! We also have Mega because my husband is self-employed. Our coverage does include maternity and it IS accepted in Texas. I spent part of my pregnancy in Mass and the remaining months/labor in Texas. The coverage is not very good though anything helps...$2000 MAX if you get pregnant within 2 years or $4000 MAX after 2 years. You should question them a little more about the coverage. It might depend on the plan, we have a nationwide plan. Good luck!

It is hard to find coverage for maternity period but you can look into Scott and White. That is who we use and they provide maternity. Good Luck!

The only way you will get decent maternity coverage is if you are on a group plan with your employer or husbands employer. I have searched and searched and it is hard to find maternity coverage at all on individual health insurance. I know that Unicare has coverage, but I believe their waiting period is 6 months before you can become pregnant. I don't remember the out of pocket expense on that one. Assurant has coverage, there is a waiting period too as well as a 10 thousand dollar deductible (almost the entire cost of my pregnancy). Ugh, I hate health insurance. I had my last daughter with no insurance and I found that when you tell you OB and hospital you are self pay, you are given a special self pay rate which pretty much comes out to you cost with insurance anyway. Sucks I know, but that is what we experienced having one baby with insurance, and one without. We ended up paying almost the same in each situation.
