My kids used to have ahccess when my husband was out of work. It was great only 35$ a month for two kids. I think I got the application from my son's school. All schools should have the application.
I am on AHCCCS/Kidscare and it covers the parent(s) and their children. For my husband, myself and our one child we pay about $70 a month. For more information you can go to http://www.kidscare.state.az.us/English/Default.asp to see if you qualify, and info of how to contact them.
my daughter has insurance through access... all you have to do is go to their web site and print out an application then send it in. it will tell you everything you need to know and what you need to send in with the application. i dont have to pay a co payment for my daughter when she gets sick, and i have access too.. i only pay $45 a month. the only problem i have is when i try to contact my case worker; she never calls me back, i end up calling the customer service line if i have questions or concerns.
I would look into Pres Individual Care...the coverage is good and it isn't too costly....I am not sure what you are looking at for a monthly premium...I think it was about $40 a month to cover my son which was much cheaper than going through my husbands work....hope that helps.

i was on access for quite some time several years ago. its not hard to get on it if you are somewhat low income but it can be a bit time consuming. i'm guessing the point is to eliminate people trying to manipulate the system.
i would start by simply calling DES (dept. of economic security) and they will most likely direct you from there.
good luck !!
My mom just got custody of my nephew and went through access it is a program called "Kids Care".Since she is not considered lower income she will have to pay a premium. It is a long process she has been waiting awhile to have her application reviewed but she thinks it will be worth it.If you are lower income you can get good insurance for nothing but alot of red tape.Im in the Scottsdale school district and they have applications at the school office for the Kids Care program I would think that other districts would do the same.
To apply for AHCCCS you have to go through DES. Get an application with them, fill it out and they will give you an appointment to have an interview to see if your son qualifies. Then if he does they will have you pick a plan. The plan that I find is best is Care 1st. Working at a doctors office and also being on that same plan myself, I find that they are the easiest to work with and a lot of doctors take it.
You can also get your child on New Mexikids. It is health insurance for all children in NM. It is either low cost or no cost depending on your situation. You need proof of income for last 30 days, kids SS#, proof of insurance (if you have any), and childs proof of age. You can go to the website http://www.hsd.state.nm.us/mad/newmexikids/ hope this helps!

Hi J..
I went through access when I was pregnant with my first child. I live in NM now but I lived in Phoenix then. All I had to do to get on it was to visit my midwife. When I want for my first exam they set up all the paperwork for me. I don't exactly know how to get ahold of them but if you go to your son's doctor or call them they could probably point you in the right direction. If you don't currently have a pediatrician for you child start shopping for one and then ask them about access. That's what I would do if I was in your situation. Good luck.
hi J.. the website is http://www.ahcccs.state.az.us/site/
if that does not work, i have someone in my office who writes individual policies with a variety of health insurance carriers. Just let me know if you'd like to pursue that avenue.
Good luck!

My name is B. and I have two kids. Both me and my kids have ahcccs, I don't pay anything for my kids dr appts or their medicine. The offices you can go to are called des (Department of economic security). If you have any questions you can email me at ____@____.com.
Ahcccs is really great. Me and my 2 kids have been on it for 3 years now. To get on it just just find the nearest Department of economic Security office. go up there and get an application and mail it in..or just give it to them there..but it can be a long wait sometimes. they'll give you an appointment, then you just have to take your financial info and stuff like that..but it is really nice if you cannot afford reg. health insurance. Hope you get everything worked out.
I'm a nurse and I recently helped my parents apply for ahcces. it can be a lenghty process if you are not organized. go to the DES off ice or fill out the ofrm online. then they schedule for an interview. i beleive that the poverty income level is 19,000 a year so if you make more than that it is prorated so you get a step level of care. have all your receipts such as rent, utility, income. ttles to your cars etc. any outstanding doctor or hosptial bill you have or have paid in the last trhee months aslo helps. they go back three months.so if you have a lot of medical bills in the last 3 months you will get better care. if your income level is higher then kids qualify for kids care which is a state sponsored insurance and you pay premiums depending on your income and expenses. ahcess is probably a better insurance than most private insurances. it pays for more stuff but you always need referals to specialists and such. it rarely pays for dental of eye care unless it is an emergency. you have to jump through a lot of hoops but once you get in the system its easier. just dont forget to renew way befor it expires because otherwise you have to go through the lengthy process all over again. when you fill out the des application they also qualify you for other things like food stamps, which might come in handy.good luck
J.,
My family has AHCCCS and it's good insurance for not having to pay anything. To get on AHCCCS you need to go to your local DES (Department of Economic Security) office and they'll have you fill out a form. You'll need birth certificates for everyone your wanting to put on AHCCCS and pay stubs (if you have any) for the last month, it might be more than a month. If anyone is working that you'll be requesting to be on AHCCCS they'll want proof of employment and they'll have a form you can have the employer fill out or have the employer write a letter verifying employment. I think that is everything you'll need besides your ID and social security card. If you have a social security card for your son you'll probably need his too. Hope this helps.

AHCCCS is tax payer funded to provide short term health insurance for low income/out of work people. It is very hard to find inexpensive insurance. Blue Cross has information about short term insurane options. It works great if you are in between jobs and stuff.
With my last son we were on Ahcccs and it was wonderful. There were no co-pays and they paid for everything. It's a great idea for someone who needs a little help financially and who doesn't have health coverage. If you don't qualify for the income requirement (which is very stiff) you can always opt to get one of their health plans for as low as $20/month. I would suggest checking it out
Hi J., my name is J. and I work for DES in Apache Junction. If you would like to try the prescreening website to see if your family would potentially qualify for AHCCCS health insurance or other possible benefits go to www.arizonaselfhelp.org this is not a guarantee you will get approved, just a prescreening BEFORE you head to a local DES office to apply, it takes just a few minutes to answer the questions and it's free. Also if you are denied for AHCCCS for example if you apply and are interviewed but your income is too high, AND you answer the question during the interview that you would be willing to pay a premium for AHCCCS health insurance, AHCCCS will send a mailer to your home for a program called Kid's Care, it's a premium based insurance for children and their parents at a low cost premium which is usually cheaper than private insurance, it doesn't affect your eligibility and doesn't obligate you to pay.....AHCCCS just saves the postage if you are not interested in paying a premium, you can always turn down Kid's care if you can't afford the premiums. Also, you can contact AHCCCS if you are over income for benefits and purchase any health insurance program available.
I really hope this helps.
Take care,
J.
you need to find the DES (Department of Ecenomic Security) office that is closes to you. Or you can go to any one and they will tell you which office services your area.
