My husbands work offered him insurance, but it's VERY expensive so we are wanting to get it somewhere so I was just wondering anyone knows any good places that aren't so expensive and not such a high deductible?

What can I do next?

It would be helpful if you told us how much is expensive. What I mean is say I know of private insurance that is $1,600 a month for a family, good coverage and believe it or not a good price for a PPO. I don't know if that is less expensive than what you said since you never told us how much it is.

Just so you know, without a high deductable you are talking well over a thousand a month for family coverage so maybe what your husband was offered wasn't so bad.

Without knowing what your husband's employer is offering, coverage, plan & cost-wise, it's hard to know what you would consider expensive. Often times employer plans have better coverage, lower co-pays & cover maternity care.

We have a high deductible private plan through Golden Rule (a United Healthcare company) & honestly, I try to avoid using it at all costs, because even though the medical bills are negotiated down, they are still ridiculous.
Most private plans don't cover maternity care, and if they do, you will be paying significantly higher rates. With private plans, you either have a high deductible, low monthly payment or a low deductible or copay, but with a higher monthly premium. You can either purchase private insurance through a local broker, or you can shop on your own.

My advice, shop around. There are so many insurance companies out there that I would look around to find the best rate, ask friends, family members, and more. You will find out the worst and best from word of mouth.

Individual plans dont cover maternity, so if you ever plan to have a baby, take the high priced insurance at work. You always get a better price with a group, because of the collective bargaining aspect.

I have independent insurance through Medica. The monthly premium is affordable, the coverage is only OK, and the deductible is outrageously high - thousands of dollars. I don't know that there are any individual plans that are not expensive, either in premiums or deductible. The price will depend on factors such as age, any existing health issues/conditions, and coverage.
