My 17 month old is very healthy...at least with all her labs the results are always more than fine. My daughter hasn't been in the mood to eat her baby oatmeal and at first I was so frustrated with her not eating that I would just give up after a few spoons. She would eat alittle but the rest of the day she is fine with all her lunches and dinners. So I started to make eggs,,pancakes,,grill cheese and she is getting better but still doesn't finish. Should I be worried because she drinks fluids all day and she is very active...I just want to make sure she is getting the nutrition she needs,,I dont' have a visit for her until next month. If anyone can help a concerned mother

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just want to thank everyone for there advice. I just let it go and when she says "HUM-HUM" I just know that its time to eat because as long as I stayed within schedule that wouldn't work anymore.

Cut her fluids to only water or very watered down juice in the middle of the day. This should make her more hungry. Juice can be full of empty calories and milk just fills her up. Toddlers tend to be picky eaters. If she looks and acts healthy then she is getting enough nutrition. My girls would eat for days and then just stop. My 4yo has decided that eating is not very important right now. I keep Pediasure in the house for those weeks when eating is not a priority. Talk to you dr if you are really concerened but she sounds totally normal.

Don't worry! I have had my daughter to the peditrican a couple ot times because she wouldn't eat! Doc says it is normal.. AND it is only going to get worse. My daghter is 27 months old now and I struggle everyday with her to eat. Some days all I can get her to eat is noodles with butter and that is for brekfast, lunch, & dinner!!! But, doc says it is okay. I m finidng different things for her to eat all the time. Our peditrican says as long as she eats one good meal a day and has her fluids she will be fine.

Don't worry I have twins that are turning 3. They used to be good eaters before they turned 2. Since then, they have hardly eaten. By some miracle they are gaining wait and doing fine. The doctor says they go through stages. I do belive that now, because all of a sudden they are eating like crazy. Next month they will be 3. Just make sure you give vitamins and try new things all the time. Good Luck

No worries....eating habits change very quickly this age. Make sure that she's not getting more fluids than she needs which could be filling her up. She is eating through out the day so don't be concerened!

Not finishing your food is a wonderful habit! If all adults were eating like this there would be no overweight people!! She eats only what she needs and not a bite more! Let her! (I wish I could do that!). Perhaps also she just doesn't like oatmeal.... You mention that she drinks fluids. Give her water to drink, not juices. Juices contain lots of calories (mainly from sugars) and might fill her up without providing the nutrients. If she won't drink plain water - add a bit (1/6) of juice, only to break the taste of water. It looks like you and your daughter are doing great - good luck.

While I'm not a doctor, I have been through eating issues with my 2 girls - who are now 17 and almost 21. My suspicion is that she simply doesn't like oatmeal! Toddlers have preferences just like adults do. Since she's eating the other foods you offer, and her tests are fine I wouldn't worry.

hi S., my 17 month old, barely eats anything at a meal time, she's very active , healthy and happy. she would eat 4-8 spoons max of anything i would give her, never ever finishes food, would not even finish an entire pancake. at this age the appetite shifts, they don't want to eat as much, want to play and run around more. also i heard that no one should eat more than they own fist size, fist size indicates the size of your stomach - people eat a lot more and that's a problem!
