Has anyone heard about buying health insurance more cheaply for kids with pre-existing conditions and serious health problems if you buy it by March 1? I am not sure if this is just for California or nationwide or what.

Thanks!
Meg

I think this is in reference to the state's high risk pool coverage which is being newly expanded to offer a plan for pre-existing conditions. Contact the Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board for more information.

Just read an article about this last night. I believe it said you can go online to the CA Dept of Insurance for a list of companies or just call any of the insurance companies and ask.
I am actually going to call the company that revoked me last year for not being able to stay current on premiums when I unexpectedly lost my job but kept trying to pay little here and there and see if they will take my son back under this new law.
Good luck to you!

I'm in California and I'm not sure at all what you're talking about.
Have you checked to see if you qualify for Healthy Families?
The do not exclude due to health conditions.

Best wishes.

I have my kids on Healthy Families in California and it's GREAT! You have to qualify income-wise, but it pays to check and see if you do. When I called the 800 number they weren't sure I would qualify, but then I went to my local guy (you can ask at the 800 number for a local office) and he qualified my family on the spot.

I pay less than $50 per month, and it's a full insurance plan (Health Net or Blue Shield, I think - your choice), with dental as well. Our co-pays are only $10/visit, and yes, they do take kids with pre-existing conditions. And, because I qualified for Healthy Families, our family automatically qualified for a price break with PG&E as well. I'm actually worried that my income will go up, because this is has been so great for my budget!
