a week ago tomorrow my son decided to jump off a ledge that was about 6 foot high onto carpet with barefeet. I took him to the doctor on Monday due to him still limping and they did x-rays and determined nothing was broke. There is no visable bruise on the outside but I can tell it still hurts because he is still gimpy on that foot. He says it doesnt hurt but I can tell it does. I still ice it at night and give him motrin if he is really gimpy. All the swelling has gone down but I was wondering how long will it take for him to walk normal if anyone else has had this happen to them or their children?????? I can't keep him off of it very good due to him being at school recess etc. Plus keeping a 6 year old boy mellow is super hard to do.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

The dr looked at the xrays very through so a hairline fracture is unlikely. She determined it was around the bone in the foot that leads to the toe by the pinkie (based on where he was saying it hurt, very specific when she was pressing) There was swelling, it is no longer swollen so it has been getting better he is just still walking a little off from his normal stride.

About 3 wks ago, 4 thick cut frozen pork chops in a ziploc bag fell out of my freezer & onto the top of my foot. It hurt soooo bad! Yesterday I had my chiropractor x ray it! He said it could take 6 wks to heal a deep bruise like that. I don't know the results if my x ray yet bc he was on his way out to lunch, but he's prob right & it's just bruised. But if u think your sons could be broken, go for a 2nd opinion!

Hey a few years ago I got up, off the couch, and hurt my foot. It hurt on the outside edge, about 3 inches down from the little toe. I thought I had broken it, it hurt that bad. I went to my podiatrist and as I explained the pain, and where it hurt, she pressed on it, and I about passed out! She didnt do xrays, but said there is a joint on the outside edge of your foot and I had dislocated it, and it had popped back in place, but was going to hurt for a few days. Maybe thats what he did. I had to be real careful to not step half on half off a stair step or edge of the sidewalk. It hurt to stand on my tip toes too.

I would take him back to the doctor, or make an appointment with a podiatrist. He may have a break that did not show up in the first x-ray. He may also have torn something or it could be just a bruise. I would ice it 3-4 times a day and wrap it with a ace bandage to see if that helps. But still get him into a doctor.
You could get some Tiger Balm, Walgreens carries it, and put that on also. It is similar to Ben Gay and Icy Hot but it works better. Martial Artists use it and swear by it. I actually keep a jar of it in my purse all the time.

Bad bruises can take awhile to appear and weeks to fully go away sometimes. I bruised the bone in my foot once. It turned black and blue for about 2 weeks. It hurt too! But I took Ibuprofen for it when it hurt.

It will take a little bit of time, but just keep doing what you are. Nothing much you can do for bad and deep bruises. As my Grandpa would tell us kids "Walk it off" Lol. So let him run and play as he feels he can and hopefully it will go away soon.

I can tell you that there are joints in the foot and tehy can get swollen without being able to tell. My son gets them sometimes. In May I had dad taske him to the hospital to his specialist to have his foot checked out. He has a blood disorder so I was wondering if maybe he got a bleed in his foot. Turned out it was fine but it hurt for about a week. There are joints and tendons in the feet and hands that can hurt like crazy and take time to heal. I would make sure he has good supportive shoes since the whole foot works together.

If he is limping, something is wrong.
You cannot see a 'bruise'... so how do you KNOW, that he has a 'bruise?'

Or maybe he has a hairline fracture OR damage to the growth plates in his foot?
How old, is he????

Or is can be muscular/tendons/ligaments....

It is swollen as well.
But NO visible "bruise."

I would, have him looked at again.
Because you cannot assume it is just a 'bruise' when you cannot see one.
What did the Doctors say???
He is limping... WHY?

You are only supposed to ice a pain... initially, for recent injury within 48 hours. And do not apply it for more than 20 minutes at a time... or you can damage the skin etc.
And things like Advil, which reduces inflammation.
