Hi ladies, I just started taking krill oil and raspberry ketone supplements yesterday. Had a terrible headache yesterday. No headache when I woke up today. Took supplements again today, terrible headache again. I know it sounds like they are obviously connected, but I called the health food store and they said a headache wouldn't be a side affect. I have taken them both in the past as well with no problem. I must add that I had my tubes tied 16 mos. Ago after my 3rd baby. Had horrible periods since. Heavy bleeding, clots, etc. They were still predictable as far as timing. Last month though I had it from the 10th-15. Then bled again on the 27th for 2 days and nothing at all in Feb. So far. Could this all be connected? I am going to call my midwife on tues. I am 39, maybe perimenopaus kicking in?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Didn't take the supplements today, so far headache free! I will try taking them again in a few days and see what happens. I also feel like my period is coming today. This is all just strange to me. I never had reactions in the past. Aging sucks, lol! It sure beats the alternative though!

Hint: Most minimum wage employees of healthfood stores don't have degrees in neurology or herbal pharmacology or endocrinology or even any coursework in those fields. ;)

As in... ignore them.

ANY substance, ESPECIALLY a concentrated chemical hitting your system, can cause headaches. Even chemicals that are supposed to ease headaches can cause headaches in some individuals. The chemicals hit our bloodstream, and go smacking up against or through the blood brain barrier, and our body can't process them ... and voila. Headache. Or it messes with the dilation of the blood vessels. Headache. Or our liver starts sending out warning signals. Headache. Or, or, or. Seriously. ANY substance can cause headaches. It's a sign that either the chemical or the dose is wrong.

((Healthfood/Supplement places crack me up. I can't tell you How Many Times -by both min wage employees and owners alike- I've been told... "Oh! There are no chemicals in these!" when I'm reading the back of something. Hon... these are nothing BUT chemicals!! Proteins, lipids, carbohydrates (and the building blocks of each... amino acids, etc.), vitamins, and minerals... they're ALL chemicals. In fact, the less refined you go the MORE chemicals are in them... because you have all of the akaloids, resins, sugars, salts, etc. that make up the rest of the plant or substance.))

If you want to do some empirical testing (wait a few weeks, and try again), by all means. Be prepared for a headache, however.

Is it ALL connected? Possibly. Most likely, however, your body can't process one or more of the ingredients the way that it used to and you're having a reaction to either a specific ingredient or the massive dump of them into your system.

"Headache wouldn't be a side effect." Bwahahahahaaaaa. Seriously??? Whomever you were talking to needs to go take a very basic introduction into human physiology.

Probably just PMS.
If your period was Jan 10-15, then the stuff on the 27th wasn't your period.... just some weirdness (which is normal to have happen every now and again). So you would be "due" for your period anytime around February 7 until even now. How long is your normal cycle? When I am not using any sort of hormones, mine can be as long as 43 days! But, since you are a little "off" this time, it may be worse (heavier) and therefore have more "side effects" (Iike headaches).

Also, make sure you are well hydrated. Anytime you get dehydrated it can cause headaches.

The extra bleeding could also be from fibroids..... It got to the point with me that I was bleeding/spotting 2-3 weeks a month, with very heavy flow for a couple of days.... to the point of flooding the tampon if I didn't change it every hour, sometimes.

That was happening to me in my 40's, though... but the extra spotting had been happening for several years.

I usually get migraines 2 days before my period starts so you could be getting menstrual migraines.
It could be one of the 2 supplements you are taking. If your body has changed since the last time you took them, you could be having some sort of reaction to one. I don't think I necessarily believe the health food store. You could stop taking the supplements until your period stops and then see what happens.
