I have head lice and need someone to pick these nits out of my head. I used the lice shampoo twice and combed out at least 2 dozen nits but I don't know if they're all gone. My husband doesn't know what to look for on my head so he can't help much. Plus it's very time-consuming and with him picking at my head and tending to our child, it will be difficult.
I really want to go to a hairdresser, someone who knows what to look for and has the time to pick through my head.
Do you know of any hair salons who will do this? How much does it cost? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for all of the great advice! Very helpful info. I just washed out 6 hours worth of mayo and combed out about 10 nits (better than last nights 24!). Hopefully this will kill everything on my head.
My MIL called me tonight to ask me about something and when I told her I had lice, she offered to pick out the nits! Thank God!! I feel much better now :-) Thanks again!!!
I seriously doubt any hair salons would do this, lice is too catchy and other clients could get it. I know I would never use a hair salon that offered such a thing.
original listerine and suave coconut shampoo...just drench ur hair in listerine and cover it til it dries...wash out with the shampoo.....this has worked for me and my daughter and if u spray ur hair with it once a week u wont get it again!!! i tried everything til someone told me to do this!! i promise it works!!!!!! i had to do my own hair as well cuz my husband dunno nothing bout it!! good luck let me know if it works for u!!!
did you shampoo 7-10 days after the first time? If you did you probably don't have them anymore and are just feeling paranoid. I know I would feel that way. Try to relax and every couple of days comb through with a clean nit comb onto a piece of white paper. You will know if you still have them.
There ARE salons who do this! I don't know any in your area. I'm in California.
Usually they require that you have the treatment shampoo first and then they will help go through your hair. A co-worker's daughter got lice iin kindergarten and that girl had so much curly hair it was impossible for one person to make sure the nits were gone. She took her to a salon who went through her hair. They also advised cutting it a bit because it was so long that just combing it out in the first place was a chore.
Call different salons in your area. No one expects somebody to be able to go over their own head by themselves.
There are salons that do it for little kids and adults. You just have to find one.
Call around.
Leave the little one home with your husband and go get it done.
If you google head lice removal, there are places that will remove head lice professionally. I recently went to a community fest where there were two women, who were nurses, and they came up with a device that actually suctions the lice out of your head. They make their money sitting in school parking lots doing this. I cant find their business card right now (my New Years resolution is to become more organized-ha) and not like it would help much since I am in MN, but hopefully there is somebody in your area that does the same. Oh how I feel for you. My daughter came home with nits (no lice, just eggs) and how I hated what that ordeal put us through...having to painstakingly comb her hair. I wonder if you have a friend who can help?

My kids had lice for over 2-3 years! Finally we have been lice free for a year. I always keep spray in their hair. Not hair spray just detangler. But any kind of spray or gel or mouse would help. Lice are attracted to clean and dirty people. I washed everything from rugs to towels, to furniture, everything. Most hairdressers won't tell you. I took my kids to a place and they had about 3 other people there and the stylists told me the girls didn't have it. I think they don't want to scare off clients. My kids wear ponytails and pull their hair back more then they used too. I didn't cut my kids hair during this time. They still have long hair. I spray their hair twice a day with the datangler. CVS has it on sale 2 for $6 this week. Good luck I know the pain your going through. Oh yeah we ordered Fiary Tales shampoo, condition from their website. We got the sample package. Then I kept buying from there. Now we don't use it anymore. Tea Tree Oil is good to keep on hand too and add to your current shampoo.
Okay this may be a stretch but a few years ago there was an article in a now-defunct children's magazine about a professional nit-picker from the orthodox jewish community in brooklyn, NY. I wonder if you might find a similar service in a local orthodox jewish community in IL.
My daughter brought them home from camp three years ago. It was not a fun experience. Sigh. We soaked her hair in olive oil mayonnaise and left it on under a cheap rubber swim cap overnight. And then we combed and combed. About a month later we had to repeat as we must have missed an egg or two (or three). Oh yes, I washed bedding daily. Stuffed animals were stored away in black plastic bags for months. The nits/lice have not been seen since.
