My 7 1/2 year old had head lice. We found the problem last Thursday. We did a treatment and still there were a bunch of eggs and nits. We then tried getting them out w/ a comb and by hand. I wrapped her head in Olive Oil and tea tree oil then combed again, those little buggers are very tough to get out. Friday we wrapped her head in Mayo for 3 hours...that just may have been the treatment that worked the best so far...again, spent all day/night on Friday combing and getting stuff out by hand. I am petrified that this will reoccur again, any tried and true remedies that you've used to help prevent an outbreak again? We've washed and washed linens and clothes and I've been vacuuming like a mad woman... I HOPE NEVER to have to endure this process again.
Thansk everyone for responding. I don't think I am over working this though for sure. I read headlice.org and we are doing everything recommended on that site as well as others. I've now got the lice as well as my 3 1/2 year old daughter so if vacuuming like mad and washing like mad helps get these little "buggers" away, then so be it, I will be a mad woman about this till we are free and clear and I hope to NEVER EVER have to go through this again...it's been a living nightmare!!!

This link might help in the future. Also, lice are not supposed to like clean hair. Good luck!
Hello J.,
as maintenance/prevention you can add tea tree oil and rosemary oil to your shampoo and conditioner. There is also neem shampoo and products that help keep them away. good luck! ~C.~
White vinegar works to help dissolve the glue that holds the eggs in the hair and then use the kit to get rid of them, then more vinegar. my mom used this combo on me when I was little and never got lice again. So if you ever have a run it with lice try some vinegar first

A new strain of lice has popped up in the last few years as "super lice" they are immune to over the counter medications and treatments. My recommendation would be to start using Tea Tree products to prevent it and if it happens again see a doctor. You also need to treat your home, their clothes, and every comb, brush, and hair thing.
