Head Aches - Crandall,TX

Does anyone deal with or ever dealt with this? I get these head aches from things being in or on my hair/head. I can't wear scrunchies, hair pins, rollers, or scarves or other head coverings. Wherever the scrunchy or whatever is, my head aches in that place. I can move it and it aches in that spot. It's been so hot, but I can't even put my hair up. They're not painful where I need to take Tylenol or anything just little head aches. It's hard to explain. I've even noticed that my head aches when I've been driving a long time in the back of my head where the head rest is. Am I weird, stressed, getting old (LOL), or could there be a problem? Thanks so very much for any insight that is offered. I was thinking of seeing my dr., but I wanted to see what the experts (moms) had to say.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, after doing some research of what I had or had not been doing the past few months.......(making a long story short). I found out it was because I had stopped taking the pill back in the late spring....I guess I got my hormones all "jacked up". haha Anyway, I'm now taking a multi vitamin to replace some of what was lost/and trying to regulate my body so to speak. I've been doing a lot better. So thanks to all the responses.

I had the same problem and I finally cut my hair. Oh my gosh!!! I should have done it YEARS ago. I feel light and free. I will NEVER have long hair again. I rarely get the headaches now and everyone tells me how cute and young I look with short hair. ;o) Good luck!

Since very few of us, if any, are medical, I'd recommend asking someone with more expertise.

I honestly have no idea, but I'd ask both your hair stylist and your doctor. I know it sounds like something silly to call your doctor about, but who knows. It sounds like it's a sensitivity issue, most likely related to nerve being overly sensitive.

i have found that the only way i can wear my hair up without getting a headache, is to take a little bit from both sides and pull it back in a half pony tail. But i CAN"T go all the way to my ears! i pull back about half way from the top of my head to my ears on both sides. cutting it shorter has helped too. My hair is a little above my shoulder. you could also try pulling just a little bit on the top back and giving it a little poof and then securing with bobby pins. I do that or pull just a little to the side and put a clip in or a flower. As long as i stay close to the top of my head and avoid pulling back around my ears or all of my hair i do ok. the only headband i have found to work for any length of time is a soft cloth one that goes all the way around my head with some elastic at the back.

I used to get more headaches by putting my hair up but it wasn't instant, it was after a while. I still have my hair long but I layered it so it's not as heavy and now I don't get the headache until many hours later (like 7 hrs) and then I take them off. What you describe sounds like you may have another problem with your scalp. You may have eczema, psoriasis, or some other condition that it's making your head more sensitive. You should check with your doctor and perhaps also a dermatologist. Don't let them dismiss it as nothing. Have them check. Best wishes and God bless!

F.,
The same happens to me with my hair. Since I was younger I could only put my hair up for a little while at a time before it would hurt my scalp and give me head aches. I don't have the problem with driving like you do, I just plain hate to commute :)
If I was you I would check with your doctor and see if you can see a neurologist and/or a specialist. Just know that you are not alone :)
Blessings

Might want to try a shorter do? It is hot, and short hairdo's are in right now... Go for it!

I have the same problem. I could be wrong, but from what I understand, it is caused the weight of the hair accessory and the hair. When your hair is down, you don't have all the weight in one spot. For me, the longer the hair, the worse it is. However, it would never hurt to ask the doctor, especially if it is really bothersome.

I have always gotten a headache from wearing my hair up, even as a kid. I just wear it down or keep it short. And yeah something putting pressure or laying on one spot can cause the same thing, it is what it is, assuming the pain goes away when you get rid of the hair tie/bow/clip/move your head from the seat, I see no reason to see a doc.

I can wear ponytails but not headbands or the big clips without hurting. If I take Tylenol or advil it helps but just avoid them most of the time.

I found this from AOL health. "Tight headbands and/or ponytails may cause headaches because the tissue under your scalp muscles have nerve fibers, which may become irritated by tight headbands and ponytails."

Yup, I fondly call them "hair headaches." It's the weight of the hair. Regarding car headrest headaches, maybe you need to move the headrest to a different position. Next time you're in the car, really pay attention to the position of your neck. Are you unconsciously craning your neck forward? That would strain the muscles and cause a headache. Adjust the seatback a little bit so that when you're sitting straight up your head is not touching the headrest. Good luck!
