Hcg Diet. I Am the Only One Who Sees This Is a Scam!

I have been hearing about this Hcg diet and had to do some research to see how it works (not to loose weight just because I was curious) Have you mamas heard of this. supposedly you take hcg (which is what is produced during pregnancy to help feed the placenta to get nutrients to the fetus) and go on a low cal diet and you can loose a pd a day. however the calorie amount you are to eat a day is 500! now I have suffered from an eating disorder and 500 cal a day is what I was living on (during the days when I wasnt bingeing and purging) and believe me there ARE side effects. your brain needs more calories than that to function and so does your heart! your don't break down fat your body breaks down muscel because it contains more calories and your body gets desperate. furthermore they make you believe it is the Hcg that is helping you loose weight but it is the low cal diet. anyone who eats only 500 cal a day will loose weight but as soon as you eat normally again (and you have to or you will die no matter what your current weight) you will gain weight so quickly. because you are malnourished. the fact that this is so dangerous makes me made, but what also makes me made is that these companies are taking money from people claiming that hcg takes off weight when it is not what is doing it! does anyone else see this is a scam

So What Happened?

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. Luckygirl I have not read that book, but I can tell you that when I was in the height of my ED I could have lectured for hours about how what I was doing would work and it made perfect sense (and not just to me lol) but when you starve yourself (which is what this diet is doing) your body goes into starvation mood. which means it releases a chemical that prevents your body from burning fat quickyly. and then it starts breaking down muscel, and your heart is a muscel this is why one of the leading causes of death from starvation is a heart attack

I agree. I see it as unhealthy and dangerous. loosing one pound a day, is not healthy. Limiting your caloric intake to that extreme, is not healthy. It's a "quick fix." Maybe you loose weight quickly, but it's all coming back...and probably more of it, too. I can't understand why people can't just eat healthy and exercise. Why, is it so hard? It may take longer, but there is a better chance of it staying off. It has other health benefits, too...not just the weight loss. Eating right and exercise helps you entire body inside and out. HCG, does not. I can't imagine why someone would rather do this, then eating healthy foods and joining a gym, or exercising outside. People want instant results and the healthy way doesn't do that often. I think it's crazy, personally.

Eep! I would absolutely not try this! You are not a fetus, lol!

Seriously, there are so many diets and scams. Eat healthy, non processed foods. Get plenty of fiber from veggies and fruits. Exercise regularly, get enough sleep.

That is the perfect 'diet' lol. Actually, I have been tracking EVERYTHING I eat on www.DailyPlate.com and it is SO helpful. It is also totally FREE, so I really recommend it. Tracking things and seeing all the calories, nutrients, etc. you are eating really helps you make better choices. Give that a try - for free!- before you spend your money on scams, IMO!

My whole family is on the HCG bandwagon and I just do not get it! My mother in law has done it 3 times. She claims she is never hungry on it. However, while she dropped quite a bit of weight in a short amount of time, she has gained most of it back already (2 months later). My mom lost 18 pounds in 3 weeks and was starving the whole time. She was exhausted and went to bed at 7:30 every night just to avoid eating. Immediately after finishing the shots she went on an eating rampage because she had felt so deprived. She gained all the weight back plus some and is at her heaviest now, 1 year later. My sister-in-law went on it for 3 days and almost passed out at work from hunger. She was shaking so bad she could hardly function. My other sister-in-laws mom and dad both did it a year ago. They looked fantastic then but now a year later they have gained back all the weight.

In my opinion, based on what I have seen, this is an extremely unhealthy diet. You may as well flush your money down the toilet. I think anyone would be better served to make smaller changes in diet and excercise and be satisfied with a slower weight loss that STAYS off instead of yo-yo-ing.

Just one thing to add - I saw Dr Oz talking about this and he said it's unsafe. Messing around with the body's hormones and he said he would never never recommend this diet.

I've done the diet and loved it. If you read Kevin Trudeou's book on it - it makes so much sense. There are nutrients stored in your fat cells - yes you are only intaking 500 calories, but you are using the nutrients in your fat cells. Hard to explain, but the book makes perfect sense. I wasn't hungry and felt great on it. It's about not putting chemicals into your body, he's pro organic for this reason. He also talks a lot about first knowing why you've put weight on - if you can't identify that, you'll continue to put weight on after. I did the diet, lost weight, I lost more than I needed to in my opinion, but 10 pounds back on, and have maintained that by eating organic, no fast food, no processed foods, exercising and being sensible about what goes in my mouth.

Every time I see a question on this "diet" on here I tell them the same thing you just said. Of course you will lose weight on 500 cal a day, but than you will get sick, and once you are off the diet you will gain it back.
