I would like to know if anyone has tried the HCG diet drops, your results, would you recommend it, and which one you bought. I am in the process of weaning my son and I still have 20 pregnancy pounds I can not seem to lose. I thought I might give this a try once I'm completely done nursing. As of right now I only know of one person who has done it and she said it works, I'd like to get more reviews before making a decision.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

In order to do this diet you must restrict your caloric intake to below 500 a day! Of course you will lose weight if you are only eating 500 calories a day! The claim is basically that the hormone keeps your body from going into starvation mode and eating its own muscles as it would do it you were normally only eating that much. If you try it, be careful, our bodies need fuel to work properly. Also, like most highly restrictive diets, once you are off of it you are very likely to regain the weight. If you want to lose weight, the best way is to limit your calories down to around 1200 a day (depending on height ect..), and get active, and do it all in a way you can learn to maintain for a lifetime. What really helps me is writing down what I eat, so I am accountable for it all and can see how the calories add up. As for the HCG, yes, if you do it you will lose weight, but if you only eat 500 cal a day you will lose it anyway, and more than likely gain it back since it would be impossible to maintain long term.

Totally agree with Jen C. It's like any other quicker results diet. The weight, is generally gained back. For some people much more, is gained back. The reason...is you're (I mean you, in the general sense here.) not actually changing anything. IN order to keep weight off, lifestyle has to be changed. Better eating habits and exercise have to be frequent, to keep weight off...no matter how you loose the weight. If you loose a ton of weight then go back to your regular habits, it will come back and then some. The only REAL way to safely loose weight and keep it off, is diet and exercise.

My friend did it. She did lose weight, but she was on about 500 calories per day to start. Personally I think if I was on 500 calories per day, I would lose weight too, no drops. It does appear she has gained some of the weight back, but not much. She did this over the summer.

She did have a day that she got sick and threw up. We are sure it was from the drops, heat, and hardly eating.

She suggested I try it and I passed.

I'm glad you're waiting until you're done nursing.
HOWEVER, even though you won't be nursing,
you'll be the parent of a toddler.
That requires energy, patience, focus.
Do you think you can maintain energy, patience, focus
on 500 calories per day?
I'm sure I couldn't and I believe most people couldn't, either.
Think about trying some vigorous exercise WITH your toddler.
Running with DS in a stroller.
Biking with DS in a baby carrier on the bike.
Baby and me gym class or yoga class.
etc.
Good luck.

Hi A.---These types of fad diets simply do NOT work. What you want are long term results and unless you change and adopt an optimal diet you will continue to have weight issues. An optimal diet is a way of life, for you and your entire family!

Instead of counting calories, count fiber. Eating fiber rich foods, fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes/beans, nuts and seeds, while minimizing animal products (they contain mostly fat and calories and too much animal protein is implicated in all degenerative diseases) will fill you up with volume...and the nutrients needed for your body to prevent disease.

Then, start some sort of exercise program. Doesn't have to be fancy, just something that you will do. Bundle up that baby and walk. Find a friend and swap baby duty for a couple of hours. Jump rope in the driveway or in the garage during the winter months. Check the library for excerise DVD's and see what kind of program you like best. Just do something. Schedule it like any other appointment and then make sure you show up for it.

I cannot stress enough that you do not want to consume any sort of diet product that artificially alters your metabolism. It will NOT achieve lasting results. Only changing what you eat and do will. If I can be of any additional help, feel free to contact me. I am taking a series of wellness classes, taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. I have all kinds of ideas and info that may be of use. Good luck and take care, D.

I think this type of weight loss plan is highly dangerous. 500 calories a day is insane. There is no magic solution to weight loss. Any gimmick like this will not last once you stop anyway, and it scares me to think of women with young children starving themselves on 500 calories! Does anyone know of a single doctor or weight loss authority who endorses this?

The Slimplicity weight loss plan is the only one I know of that involves a product, but it's a balanced formula done by food scientists (with an outstanding FDA inspection) and not someone out to make a quick buck. Otherwise do Weight Watchers.

Get a pedometer and take 10,000 steps a day. Park farther from the stores, take the stairs instead of an elevator, put your kid in a stroller and walk (as it gets cold, walk in an indoor mall early before the stores open). Buy a workout DVD and a small set of weights.

Don't endanger your health.

Check out this blog post from my friend/chiropractor. I really respect their opinion as this is a product that he could have probably made a lot of money on, but instead discussed his thoughts on the products/diet.

I have to agree with the other posts! This diet is very unhealthy! Your body needs more than 500 calories a day to be healthy!
I have two kids that are 19 months apart and have fought so hard to lose weight! I am finally down to my lowest in years and am thinner than even when I was in HS! BUT, I workout every day and eat a healthy, balanced diet! It takes a lot of time and effort to acheive the results you want!
It took me over a year to lose and thin down after my second child. Just remember, it takes nine months to put the baby weight on so give yourself some slack. You can do it!

Please don't do this. After reading other responses, it does not sound safe. I have a 10 month old and am still working on losing weight. I now have just 5 pounds to go to get to my weight before I had both of my kids. I ended up hiring a personal trainer because nothing I did worked. It was so worth it! Building the muscle has helped me lose a lot of fat. In 2 months, I lost 6% body fat but only 2 pounds. However, my body had completely changed. I am able to still eat without restricting my calories too much and feel great. I highly recommend some type of exercise program. It is good for your body and will help you feel great.

I have done it and I love it. I was a size 18 on September 1, 2009, on OCT 3, 2009 (33 days later) I was a size 10 and walked into my highschool reunion wearing the same size I walked out 30 years earlier.

My blood sugars are GREAT, tested after doing the entire protocol.
My blood pressure medications ceased 100% in the same 40 days, tested regularly through the protocol and my Doctor decreased my dosage within the first 2 weeks and then ceased all medications by the end of the first 40 days.
My Cholesterol improved and I did one more round that same year in November at Thanksgiving for 23 more days to go from size 8 to a 4, I am still wearing those 4's and that is completely because I completed the entire protocol, 21 consecutive non cheating days on the low calorie and then the 6 weeks following. There are two phases of the maintenance phase, each phase is 3 weeks & very methodical. If you don't follow the protocol precisely as Dr Simeons wrote in the 40's after studying it for over 20 years, it will be hard if not impossible to maintain the weight loss.

YES, I recommend it
YES, I recommend doing it through Pounds and Inches Away, Murphy Texas and NOT buying it online. They help people local and long distance.
YES, It changed my life in such a positive way that I chose to change careers and work for Pounds and Inches Away too. They will not hire anyone who has not already followed the program and been succesful. I've maintained since 2009 and today is May 27, 2011. I have always loved food and I can enjoy it today and still maintain the loss.
YES, it has been studied for over 40 years, 20 years by Dr Simeons in Europe and brought to the US in the 1970's....It's been used for over 60 years with NO ILL Effects...
YES, it has more supporters than against it.
NO NO NO you ARE NOT LIVING ON 500 calories while doing the diet, read below to lear more. Most people who say this have not spent 15 minutes looking into it, they stop at the first mention of what a person is eating or what they may not be eating. SEE BELOW

NOW, answering your questions regarding side effects. This one is easy. If you've ever been pregnant, your body produced about 1 million units a day for 40 weeks. Your body never had a problem with HCG running through it then and I believe, GOD knows what he was doing. If this was a hormone that would cause a problem for our body, then why would we naturally increase the amount we produce when pregant. The protocol uses 1 to 2 units a day for 40 days and when pregnant women produce about 1 million of these units for 40 weeks. No side effects, none.

Did we go to a doctor to ask if we could produce this hormone before most people choose or accidentally become pregnant? Probably not. Does it make sense that when used in about 40 days in an extreme minute amount opposed to the extreme massive quantity a person produces (when pregnant) for 40 weeks, that it's more than likely safe? Yes, I'd say there is no assumption, it's simply safe. Is it a good idea to consult a physician before starting a new exercise program or new diet? Yes, that too is wise.

The HCG is a hormone that has particular functions when it is present in our body. One of these functions is to allow our body to create an open system. What happens when our body is in OPEN SYSTEM MODE? Our body is suddenly given the opportunity to "SEE" the fat that our bodly normally doesn't see. This is the extra stored fat our body has stored away and never processed the nutrition or calories. This is the extra stored fat we are wanting our body to evict. When our body "SEES" this fat, our body will use it first. We dont' want to lose our structure fat or normal reserve of fuel, we want to keep that and burn the fat we are trying to lose? Without having an OPEN SYSTEM, our body is "BLIND" to it.

WITHOUT HCG" With normal diet and exercise, we bust our humps trying to lose the excess stored fat, but we lose the structured fat and normal reserve of fuel fat before our body will OPEN to see the fat we wish to lose. The structure fat and normal reserve of fuel must come back, this is what creates the apperance of YO YO. Driving us crazy. When losing fat with normal diet and exercis, we never lose the extra stored fat until after we've depleted the normal reserve of fuel (fat) and the structure fat which our body will replenish as soon as a person stops the Diet and Exercise Program. With normal diet and exercise our body's don't see the extra stored fat until after it has used/depleted the fat our body is intended store daily, then and only then will our body WITHOUT HCG, creat an open system due to STARVATION. When we've created the open system that way, it's not healthy, because we would have depleted all of the fat our body was intended to keep and use. That being said, when we stop dieting our normal reserve of fuel/fat and the structure fat will return making us FAT again. We only lost the fat under the fat we want to lose.

DIETING WITH HCG:
With HCG, using a very small amount about 1 to 2 units per day for 40 days, this small minute amount allows our body to create the open system so that our body will access and burn it now. We are now being fed from the extra stored fat with up to 1000 to 4000 more calories that will not be put into circulation. Therefore we are now processing food and nutrition from food we have previously eaten and our body has stored away....We are living far more on this food source for a short 23 to 40 days than the new calories we are introducing. Like a fast, it is for a purpose and for a short time.

While on HCG DIET we are living far more on the fat we are burning (previously eaten and stored away for future) than the new calories being eaten which is about 500 to 800 more, fueling our bodies with more than enough calories to sustain a healthy lifestyle, 1500 to 4000 calories flowing through us.

There is food, nutrition, calories and minerals in the fat ready to fuel and feed us. When w start the HCG diet protocol and remain on the Low Calorie Diet our body will not only SEE this extra stored fat, that's what it is accessing to fee us with. This is the reason we aren't hungry, this is also why I wasn't hungry when pregnant, I lost all that fat and couldn't eat because I was using it too. I was FULL.

Side effects? What would there be?

THe only things I see, is that when going on the protocol, because of the foods we are eating to load are high in fat and oils, it may irritate an already diseased gall bladder, if you have brittle diabestes the blood sugar should be checked regularly with your doctor because the positive effect is blood sugar lowers to more normal levels, if high blood pressure there is a positive side effect with every pound lost our blood pressure is returning to a more normal level also, therefore monitor blood pressure too, because you will need your doctors advice on possible dosage changes,

As for having to do it over and over again....NOT if you follow the instructions through all phases of the protocol.

You may need only 1 round, typical results are 20 to 30 pounds in women when following the VLCD (very low calorie diet) for 40 days, then following the 6 weeks of maintenance correctly.

You will maintain the weight, like me and millions of others.

Hope that answers your questions

It does drop the pounds, but not long term. I know of people doing it for the 3rd and 4th time. So that tells me the minute the HCG is out of your system and you eat more than cucumbers, lettuce and 5 shrimp that you are restricted to, you put the weight back on.
